FIRST TIME FILMMAKERS WORKSHOP 2025 - Make A Music Video // Atomic Bounty Hunter - Bugfacer

What an insanely talented group of people at The Warren - over two intense weekends, our UNTHINKABLE mentors helped some young creatives create a music video FROM SCRATCH. They’d never made one before but the final piece was so bloody professional - congratulations to everyone involved, and we can’t wait to see it again soon on YouTube!

THANK YOU:

EROTIC CINEMA // THE ORIGINS OF P**N

What a night. A full house, an educational talk, and a line-up of art-house thought-provoking cinema. What can only be described as one of our festival’s most unique events, it’s only assured us that this is something you all loved; we promise more like this in the future at UNTHINKABLE.

The evening couldn’t have been a success without of .e.n_hull with his introduction to the origins of p**n, and .darrell.art’s exquisite programming of diverse short films that explored such an array of nuanced themes involving s*x, the body, fe**sh and trans love.

Thank you Valen and Finn, and every single person that showed up and found the evening as informative and enjoyable as we did 🫀

More like this in 2026.

18+

This evening entailed a bit of a different perspective to what was originally planned, but it ended up being one of our most artfully intimate events, and it was in this intimacy that the success was found.

The night commenced with Finn Darrell's spiritual bloodletting performance which was unlike anything we've seen before. The incredible space of HARI was then host to a film by Rachel Deakin and music by Industrial Coast, Richie Culver, DJ Deathdefy and Balf.

Thank you again to Sarah Pennington and the artists from the WARM THE OUTSIDE POOL UP exhibition that created a harmonious space for our most unique night of the UNTHINKABLE festival 2025.

WARM THE OUTSIDE POOL UP

‘It was great to collaborate with UNTHINKABLE on this innovative call out for artists, and HARI was thrilled by the audience response to the exhibition.

and visited for a bespoke tour and spent time enjoying and finding out more about the artworks. All of the pieces impressed with their skill and thoughtfulness, and it was a difficult decision, but they were particularly drawn to the works by two of the artists, which they selected for the UNTHINKABLE Arts Prizes: huge congratulations to Alexandros Kalogerakis for his paintings of HU3, and to Harry Newman for his rockpool looking glass installation, both very worthy winners!’

Incredibly excited to announce the two winners of our art exhibition for the UNTHINKABLE 2025 festival that we did in collaboration with HARI. Thank you to every single artist involved (listed below) and to Sarah Pennington for the passion she whole-heartedly invested into this festival and the artists of Hull.

BRASSED OFF SCREENING W/ MARK HERMAN Q+A

Mark Herman returned for the SECOND year in a row to talk to you lot about one of his films, which we got to enjoy on the big screen at Middleton Hall.

Thanks for continuing to come back to Hull for the UNTHINKABLE festival Mark; and thank you to the uni for giving us a smashin space to do it again. Such a brilliant opportunity and experience for the ones that grew up with his films, the ones studying film at the uni, and the ones that just like Ewan McGregor and his brass instruments.

Reflecting on our night with Iration Steppas at the beginning of our festival last month - what a smash combo of film and music! We started at Humber Street Gallery with a sold out screening of In a Vanguard Style, documenting the rich history of the sound system duo followed by a Q+A with them. Polar Bear Music Club wrapped the night up with a live set from Iration Steppas themselves, marking a historical moment for Hull as this was the FIRST TIME the sound system had come to the city!

Thank you Mark for your time taken to chat with us before your set. See you next year!

TEAM’S CHOICE: TAKING STOCK (dir. Duncan Cowles)

This year we had our UNTHINKABLE team choose their favoured film out of the entire award screening bunch - congratulations to Duncan for taking the prize! We loved Taking Stock - funny, clever, and just what was needed on the evening 👏

BEST EROTICA SHORT: BO***ES / Les Seins (dir. Emma Chevalier)

‘A couple is making a s*xtape, but she has a question, and he doesn’t know the answer...’

This year we introduced our Erotica short film category, but ‘erotica’ doesn’t fully capture the level of art, creativity, and wit that the screened films pulled off. Congratulations to Emma for creating a wonderful, poignant, and intelligent film that achieves so much through one camera shot, no faces, and sharp emotional dialogue 👏

BEST STUDENT SHORT: IT ALL COMES DOWN (dir. Meg Earls)

'Three generations of women sit around a table as the granddaughter begins asking questions about the past. A small spark reveals inherited family memories of conflict and struggle in Northern Ireland. Images emerge, marked by the profound absence of words'.

Congratulations to the winner of our best student short film category at the 2025 UNTHINKABLE festival, Meg Earls with It All Comes Down! A poignant, beautifully illustrated animation that was so rewarding to see on the big screen.
