WARM THE OUTSIDE POOL UP // Wed 01.12

HARI and UNTHINKABLE Film Festival warmly welcome you to join us for the opening night of the exhibition WARM THE OUTSIDE POOL UP in HARI’s atmospheric space to kick off our film festival!

WHEN: Wednesday 1st October 6:00pm
WHERE: HARI, 25 Francis St, HU2 8DT

Featuring a wonderful variety of responses by artists to this provocative prompt, both thematically and in material presentation, visitors are encouraged to explore the diverse readings and artforms, and share their own ideas for representations of what the pool is - and how it’s warmed.

The opening event is free, but please book tickets through the eventbrite link in our bio.

*please note, the exhibition is on the first floor, only accessible by stairs.

FIRST TIME FILMMAKERS WORKSHOP: CREATE A MUSIC VIDEO // SCREENING

Over the course of two weekends, learn the skills necessary to make a music video with tracks provided by local artists - we are also proudly working in collab with The Warren Youth Project and The Curve to bring this incredible opportunity to the people of Hull!

Your mentors will include local film and music industry pros such as Stewart Baxter, Downtown Kayoto, Callum Ahmed, Tarik Skalli, and Alex Davies, who will all guide you through the exact processes of shooting and editing a music video. Your films will then be proudly displayed at their very own screening on Friday 10th at 7:15pm!

UNTHINKABLE’s experimental shorts will be screening as part of our launch night in just a couple of weeks - that means these films are free of charge to watch as you enjoy the bar in our comfy Sofa Cinema, before heading upstairs to view the opening night of the new Cosey Fanni Tutti exhibition, and after viewing ’s debut solo show at the pop-up gallery on Pier Street.

About the artist: Finn Darrell is a multidisciplinary artist, working across filmmaking, photography, performance art and stained glass. Finn grew up in rural Essex, UK and moved to London in 2018, studying animation at UAL for a year, before going on to study a BsC in psychology at King’s College London. Following this, they studied for a year at The New School in New York, all the while developing their creative practice. Finn has performed at an array of venues across London and New York, using visceral body modification techniques to explore themes of mental health, fe**sh, magic, Christianity, ritual and rebirth. Finn made their debut short film, Muntjac, during the pandemic in 2021, releasing it in 2023. The film examines the esoteric and archetypal through a distinctly q***r lens, and has screened at festivals across the UK and Europe.

MADAKLASHT, MAY YOU HAVE A LONG LIFE screening // Sat 11.10

In the empty meadows of the Shishikuh valley in Chitral, northern Pakistan, the Madaklashti found their home. But as an Ismaili Shia minority, surrounded by Sunnis; and with the ever-looming threat of flooding, safety is not guaranteed. Through an ensemble of felled trees, religious rivalry, cascading water, eagle dance and irrigation, this film shares that sense of being in place.

COSEY FANNI TUTTI: INCOGNITO // Thursday 02.10

Alongside our official UNTHINKABLE launch night at , there will be an exhibition upstairs in Space 2 for you all to immerse yourself in around networking, drinks, and the premiere of our experimental films in our Space 1 SOFA CINEMA 🛋️

INCOGNITO is a new exhibition by artist Cosey Fanni Tutti, curated by Cosey and Cabinet Gallery, London. It is the embodiment of multiple identities originally constructed by Cosey Fanni Tutti to function within the glamour industry between 1973 and 1981. This eponymous exhibition brings together film, vinyl music, costumes, performance documentation, press cuttings and correspondence; many rare material items from Cosey’s personal archive never previously exhibited.

Prepare yourself for an immersive soundscape experience down at Hull's legendary The Welly Club. The event will take place in the iconic Welly:2, the upstairs venue where rave music first began for The Welly & that brought pleasure to do many ravers.

We're bringing you a fantastic selection of local films from our city 'ull, alongside Q&As from all the filmmakers involved which is just bloody brilliant to be honest. Tickets for this one are selling fast, but don't forget there's a repeat of the same films on Sunday.
