The Royal Liverpool Golf Club is to host the best amateur golfers from around the world next year.

The R&A has announced the Hoylake course will be the venue for the 131st running of its amateur championship event from 15 – 20 June 2026.

The British Mountaineering Council has announced that its young volunteer of the year award will be named in memory of the late West Kirby Grammar School pupil Jessica Baker.

Jessica, a talented young climber and dedicated volunteer, passed away in 2023 in a road traffic collision on the M53 whilst on her way to school, aged just 15.

Hilbre Island nature reserve and Wirral Country Park have been named as ‘Green Heritage Sites’ as part of the Green Flag awards.

The accolade recognises the management and promotion of historic features in the locations, and it is the first time Hilbre Island has been included.

Plans have been submitted for the creation of a leisure centre on part of the former Kingsmead School in Hoylake.

It would see the existing swimming pool and three classrooms on Carlton Lane refurbished and converted into a salt water pool with a wellness suite and gym, changing rooms, cafe and car parking.

📹 | A group of pupils from Calday Grange Grammar School have cleaned up whilst taking part in the Wirral Coastal Walk.

Ethan Miah-Garcia and his friends walked from Seacombe to Thurstaston on Sunday 6 July to raise money for their trip to Kenya with Camps International next year, during which they will undertake a number of volunteering activities.

Housing provider Magenta Living has scrapped plans to build 14 homes on Banks Road in West Kirby, and is instead selling the land at auction.

The development, on the site of the former Ashton Court sheltered housing complex, was meant to feature 13 three-storey townhouses and a two-storey detached house.

The family of a man who lost his life while swimming off the Wirral coast have commemorated his memory with a new bench outside Hoylake lifeboat station.

Haydn Griffiths was just 23 when he tragically drowned after taking to the water in July 2022.
