More Than Just a Book

I’ve decided to keep my little copy of The Golden Treasury, published way back in 1861.

It’s old. Worn in places. The cover doesn’t shine, and its pages are softly yellowed with time. I looked it up online to see what it might be worth — and honestly, I felt a bit sad. Something so old, so full of heart, barely valued at £20?

But then I remembered… its worth isn’t in money.

This book has outlived generations. It's held in its pages the words of Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Keats, and more. It starts with a poem called Spring by Thomas Nash — a joyful little piece about renewal and the turning of seasons.

> “Spring, the sweet spring, is the year’s pleasant king...”

Isn’t that beautiful? That’s why I love poetry — it speaks to parts of us we sometimes forget.

I’m keeping this book not because it’s valuable in pounds and pence, but because it’s a treasure in time. One day I might show it to my grandchildren — let them feel the weight of its years, turn its soft pages, and know that stories can last.

It reminded me of something important:
It doesn’t matter if you’re old, or a little faded, or not quite perfect.
You still hold precious pages… and you still have more chapters to tell.
