As part of a project I'm helping James Hoy from Next Step with, we are mapping the musical family trees in our area.

We want to raise awareness of our tremendous home grown talent and also, as it's the 30th anniversary of Alien Sound Recording Studio next year, I'll be presenting a compilation album, documentary/podcast and live events to celebrate this.
We feel it's time to document and preserve all of your names to showcase and preserve a record for future generations.

I have thirty years of loose records and associations, but it's not detailed enough to remember every single band member or your achievements, plus I'm getting old and my memory is getting kinda patchy.

It doesn't have to be in the last thirty years, in fact, you don't have to have been in the band itself, we just want your information, way back to the sixties of you have it.

So, if you'd like to take part in this archive, could you please reply, in your own time with the following information...

Your project's name, band members, dates active to and from, and any notable achievements, gigs or press no matter how big or small, not forgetting current contact details.
Additionally (if you have this) promotional pictures, gig shots, or examples of merch would be welcome (but not necessary) Whatever you can give us will be useful.

Finally, if you recorded at Alien Sound at any point, and would like your material to appear on the compilation, please let me know.
If you recorded with me in the last 22 years, I should have your material archived on my system. If you give me permission, I will remix and remaster one song for you, at no cost, to appear on the compilation next year.
If there is anyone out there that is running Cubase and is willing to help load up projects to bounce out, I could extend that cutoff to 26 years. Please get in touch if you're willing to help out with that.

Anything older than this will probably be 2 track masters only, and I might still have them stored on DAT somewhere.

We've already started collating this information from our own records, but we don't want to leave a single person out of this.
Please get in touch, we can only do so much alone. If you can share this around, or let people know about it, we'd be most grateful.

Having a little 'throw-back' today.

Here's some memories of when 'The House Band' came in to record and mix their album in 2014. Members of this band went on to form the band 'Old Ben' who have also recorded at the studio.

This is what true musicianship looks like - fraternity, collaboration, and everyone putting the music/sound before their own egos, insecurities and foibles.

Sometimes joyous, sometimes exhausted, sometimes hysterical - always creating.

All the musicians there, in a room with just a couple of mics, balancing themselves up as they go. No mixing to be done. Probably recorded as a whole take, maybe they might cut two different takes together, but that's it, simple.
Plus, not a single person going on about how loud it will be on the record...
