Acclaimed Surrey-based barber and Surrey Rocks columnist, .official, has taken the plunge and opened his own barbershop, CleanCuts by Sid Da Barber, in Guildford.

The new shop based at 8-10 Bellfields Road also contains Tattoo and Caricature Artists in residence: The Dream Art Tattoo and Red Nose Tattoo Shop will operate there most days.

Sid said of his new venture, “Running a barbershop is more than fades and fresh cuts - it’s chaos, hustle, passion and pride. It’s being the first one in, last one out and still finding mystery clippers under the sink!”

Sid has been taking non-stop bookings since they opened last week so make sure you pre-book if you want to pay them a visit, as Sid explains, “We are fully booked at the moment so please book in early for next week! Thanks to everyone’s support on making this happen!”

See www.cleancuts.co.uk to make a booking now via the Booksy app and be sure to follow them on Instagram for the latest updates and news on their official launch party coming soon!

GLOW NATURALLY WITH REFLEXOLOGY 💚

While the market offers an array of creams, serums and various treatments promising to fill, lift and tighten - not everyone is inclined toward surgical or chemical solutions. Perhaps you are hesitant to inject unfamiliar substances into your skin or simply prefer a more natural path. The good news? You have choices. As a trained holistic reflexologist, I am able to offer a completely natural face lift combining with the latest reflexology.

Maintaining a healthy diet and staying hydrated are essential foundations for radiant skin. If you wish to enhance these results, consider holistic facial therapies such as face yoga, Japanese facial massage, Indian head massage, cranial work and face reflexology. These trending practices are designed to work in harmony with your body rather than force rapid, unnatural changes.

Among these natural options, the Zone Face Lift stands out. I personally endorse and offer this treatment, which Tatler Magazine has described as “extraordinary.” Developed by globally renowned reflexologist Ziggie Bergman, the Zone Face Lift developed from a combination of traditional facial reflexology methods and ancient healing techniques from shamans and uses pressure-point massage ancient body mapping and healing herbs to lift the face and the spirit. This psycho-spiritual approach is transformative and has its positive focus on ageing well. Looking and feeling like the best version of yourself, this magical programme will leave you feeling blissed-out, with a smoother face to match. For many women, this will eliminate the need for injectables and offers a natural alternative to dermal fillers.

This 12-week programme is designed where clients typically notice more defined features, softer and younger-looking skin, and a boost in confidence, it’s hugely relaxing and destressing. The treatment encourages your skin to naturally produce collagen and elastin, smooths fine lines, increases circulation and imparts a healthy glow.

𝒞𝑒𝓁𝑒𝒷𝓇𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝟧𝟢 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓈 𝑜𝒻 𝐹𝑜𝓍𝒽𝒾𝓁𝓁𝓈 𝒞𝓁𝓊𝒷 & 𝑅𝑒𝓈𝑜𝓇𝓉 🦊

Fifty years ago, in 1975, the elegant grounds of Foxhills - set within 400 acres of Surrey countryside - officially opened to the public as a two-course golf club. It was a bold chapter for a historic estate once home to the 18th-century politician, Charles James Fox, whose legacy still echoes through the halls of Foxhills Club & Resort’s manor house. Back then, Foxhills was under the ownership of Aer Lingus, which had ambitious plans for the golf venture as it was looking to diversify. Despite its beauty and promise, the early days proved challenging, and by the early 1980s, the club was ripe for a new beginning.

That turning point came in 1983 when Ian & Pamela Hayton purchased Foxhills. Ian, an advertising executive by trade, had a clear vision: to build not just a golf club, but a vibrant family-friendly country club (with inspiration from US country clubs, particularly in New York) where people of all ages could relax, play and feel at home. He said: “If we can get their families here to join them after their round of golf, we keep the wallet here”. It was an insight that would shape the soul of the business for the next 5 decades.

From that moment on, Foxhills began to evolve into something far beyond a golf club. Ian & Pamela brought energy, charm and personality to the club which still lives on through their brand every day. They extended the accommodation offering and began welcoming paying guests to stay overnight. Pamela oversaw the transformation & interior design of the rooms, ensuring each one carried her hallmark of warmth and a “home from home” feel. Members could now dine, play, stay and unwind, all in one location.

By the 1990s, Foxhills had become a magnet for Surrey families. The restaurant served popular dishes like Breast of Chicken Country‑style and early set menus that included wine, all for under £10. Children played in the open grounds, tennis courts buzzed with activity and the club’s reputation grew with each passing year. Yet the Haytons stayed true to their mission of maintaining an inclusive, relaxed atmosphere that brought people together.

Sometimes you have to go through the mill to realise why you were put on this Earth. So it is with the Dub Pistols, the reggae-breaks-jungle mashup, the gangster-swaggering festival stalwarts whose rollercoaster story reads like a rock’n’roll cautionary tale on a grand scale. When big beat ruled the clubs the Pistols were snapped up by Interscope magnate Jimmy Lovine and anointed Geffen Records’ priority act for America. But Geffen put their album out the week that 9/11 happened, so the Dub Pistols ended up broke and label less instead of US superstars. This is how it happens. They get knocked down - but they get back up again. Over an 18-year career the Dub Pistols have worked with heroes like The Specials, Busta Rhymes, Horace Andy, Madness and Gregory Isaacs. They’ve burned through different members and hundreds of thousands of pounds on assorted capers and hedonism and done — in the words of dapper frontman Barry Ashworth, a ducking, diving South London graduate of the ‘Summer of Love’ generation who started a band because he loved Happy Mondays and never looked back — “more fu***ng drugs than we knew what to do with.” Barry Ashworth, frontman of Dub Pistols (and Patron of the charity Tonic Music for Mental Health) is the brains behind the TNT awarded ’Best UK Festival’ . Catch our exclusive interview with here:

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTO DJ’ING?
It all started back in 1987, I was a club promoter at the Funk Club and The Gardening Club in Covent Garden, then I went to Ibiza and never looked back! I was unable to mix records properly at first, so I got pals to scratch and play horns over the top of my sets!

WHAT MADE YOU START DUB PISTOLS BACK IN 1996?
We got bored with the generic house sound and were inspired by the anything-goes attitude of the late 90s’ genre that came to be called big beat in the UK acts like The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Propellerheads.

H E L L O // J U L Y ❤️

Welcome to the July Issue of Surrey Rocks Magazine, where this month we cover the latest launches in Surrey: chic new French restaurant .uk in Epsom, Catering in Esher and barbershop in Guildford; all three burgeoning businesses are must trys.

Plus, we bring you the hottest Festival Fashion in ‘For Him’ and ‘For Her’ where the best looks are explored, from boho to biker chic, there is something for everyone and it won’t break the bank. You could be the owner of a pink flamingo shirt and short set for £12.50!

Entertaining the kids through the longest break from school for the year (when do the Summer holidays end?!) we here at Surrey Rocks know that a lot of parents will be saying this to themselves in July with little ones running everyone ragged. But we have a solution ‘School’s Out’ with 8 of the best things to do in Surrey with your little ones. Hope everyone is entertained!

We also have fantastic and insightful interviews from where she chats about the amazing work she has done for , The K9 Angels and Camp Beagle; helping save dogs worldwide.

We also caught up with Barry Ashworth of the Dub Pistols where he speaks candidly on how he became a DJ, (his mates used blow horns over his mixing!) spent $1.5m in one year in the US and how they were given the moniker of being “the hardest working lazy bastards in the world.” Barry’s limited company is also called, ‘What The F**k Can Possibly Go Wrong?’ Read his hilarious interview on pages 44-49.

And I would just like to thank everyone for all their support from the Surrey Awards and the phenomenal feedback and press coverage we have received. We can’t wait to bring it back next year.

Hope you enjoy reading,

Sam

S U M M E R // O F // L O V E 🤍

As the days get longer and the weather heats up, so does the dating scene. Summer 2025 is shaping up to be a season of connection, adventure and (dare I say it!) authentic romance.

Whether you’re newly single, back on the apps or simply open to meeting someone new, there’s never been a better time to put yourself out there. The good news? Dating has evolved in exciting ways, and this Summer’s trends are all about meaningful connections, mindful dating and shared experiences.

TREND #1: SLOW DATING IS STILL IN

After years of swiping fatigue, more singles are ditching the rapid-fire app culture in favour of “slow dating.” This means fewer dates, more intention. People are prioritising quality over quantity, taking the time to get to know someone before jumping into anything serious.

It’s not about playing hard to get - it’s about being present, asking thoughtful questions and really listening. If you’re looking for love this summer, slow it down. Ask yourself what you truly want in a partner and give each new connection the chance to grow organically.

TREND #2: ACTIVITY-BASED DATES ARE BOOMING

Gone are the days of awkward first drinks at loud bars. In 2025, dating is all about shared experiences. From beach picnics to pottery classes, singles are choosing fun, low-pressure activities that allow for natural conversation and real bonding.

It’s the perfect way to show off your personality and see someone else’s in action. This summer, try suggesting a farmer’s market stroll, a bike ride, or even a group pickleball match. The goal is to connect while doing something you both enjoy.

TREND #3: DIGITAL DETOX DATING

Many people are taking a break from the traditional dating apps and finding love the old-fashioned way - in real life. This trend is being called “digital detox dating,” and it’s all about meeting people through friends, hobbies and everyday encounters. Not only is it refreshing, but it also removes the pressure of profiles and perfect selfies.
