Think Global, Act Local

Think Global, Act Local A community radio programme dealing with global environmental issues on a local level.

We’re on two wheels this month. We’re devoting the whole programme to a celebration of cycling and the people who love it. From the youngsters learning maintenance in Seacroft’s bike pit, to a cycling supergeek who’s emphatically not a lycra-clad racer,
not forgetting the men of Blokes and Spokes.

And I’m joined in the studio by Seacroft’s two-wheeled active travel champion, Clarrie Ramsden. So park up, take off your bike clips, brew up a cup of tea and settle down for a session of cycling chat. All this in June’s Think Global Act Local, on East Leeds Community Radio. Wednesday 11th at 8pm, and afterwards on the radio player.

In May’s Think Global, Act Local, we’re bringing you a smorgasbord of climate actions, from a worldwide celebration to a nature ramble near Gipton.

We take a stroll with Donna Cutting and the Roots walking group to learn about the Dead Plants Society, and look for the Killingbeck crocodile.

Incredible Edible’s Dan Robinson tells us why he’s campaigning for the Right to Grow fruit and vegetables on public land.

And how did you mark Earth Day this year? It was celebrated around the world, Young broadcasters from our sister program, Red Kite, report on how they did it in Pudsey

All this in May’s Think Global Act Local on East Leeds Community Radio. Wednesday the 7th at 8pm, and afterwards on the radio player.

It’s a great time of year, with Spring buds and blossom appearing everywhere - including in the soon-to-open Killingbeck Orchard. We were lucky enough to be taken on a tour of this beautiful spot before it opens to the public at Easter.

Also on April’s programme, we’re going to call a friend. We’ve talked before to Justin Mog, from our American twin radio station Forward Radio in Louisville, Kentucky. We’re chatting with him again, as he marks 8 years of environmental broadcasting.

And did anyone spot wombles in Rein Park recently? Clarrie’s been litter picking. We’ll hear her thoughts on fly tipping.

It’s all in April’s Think Global Act Local on East Leeds Community Radio. On Wednesday 9th at 8pm, and afterwards on the radio player.

This month, we’re hearing an important story. Neil Brophy, one of our regular contributors, talks about why he’s going to court after taking part in a protest.

Tim’s a researcher who’s worked to develop community energy projects. We hear about his work, and his spare time hobby of looking for big roofs suitable for solar panels.

And – I feel the need for a fanfare here – Clarrie is back. With a bunch of friends and a host of power saving tips.

All in the March edition of Think Global Act Local, on East Leeds Community Radio.

This month, we visit an impressive social enterprise, Leeds Wood Recycling. And we’re joined in our broadcast van by two old friends - Nathan Stewart of Space2, the man who once offered us a drink made from garden weeds, and of course Clarrie - who has news of her latest mission: healthy bodies for a healthy planet.

The programme is available now on the East Leeds Community Radio player. Wood, weeds, and wellness. All in December’s Think Global Act Local. Merry Christmas.

In this month's Think Local Act Global we go for a walk from one side of Leeds City Centre to the other, on the special theme of energy - sources of energy, consumption of energy. How our sources have changed over time and how we're trying to move to more sustainable sources and lower consumption.

In the programme we visit music teacher Matt, who’s been spending his summer holiday doing a major insulation retrofit to his former council house. Clarrie’s also had a busy summer, but found a few minutes to chat to a womble, and we’ve been eavesdropping on Justin Mog, of Forward Radio Louisville as he chats to Kate Lock of the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission, on everything from brass banding to carbon reduction targets.

In the July edition of Think Global Act Local, we’ll hear about the plan to close a busy traffic route for a day, to hold a Green Fair.

Also this month, Clarrie reports back from the launch of Seacroft’s Active Travel Hub. Neil dissects another climate misconception, and we catch up with climate activist Rob Greenland, as he reflects on the recent election result.
