Saturday was a much needed trip to Otter Watersports Drysuits and I have upgraded to the Brittanic MKII telescopic dry suit with the si-tech neck system and rock boots. Being dragged along river beds and gravel there is only one company that can make a suit suitable. It's why for 35 years I have relied on Otter drysuits.
My 2 other suits are still good and it gives me 3 suits to choose from.

It is truly a treat when filming underwater and, out of nowhere, a European eel enters the frame. These remarkable creatures have always fascinated me and are part of one of nature’s greatest migrations. After documenting the glass eel migration, it has become evident that more needs to be done to support and protect this journey, ensuring that future generations of these stunning animals can continue to thrive and be observed in their natural habitat. Huge thank you to North Yorkshire Water Park Fisheries for allowing me back in to this stunning lake to film.

What a brilliant weekend we had filming the new film "Beneath The Oars" at Henley On Thames. The film has been commissioned by Future For Water and will be shown at this year's River Summit & Festival in September at Henley on Thames. We had some amazing help and a brilliant team of people that made the filming work so well. What a stunning part of the country.

Future for water podcast where i discuss my filming career over 3 decades

In this episode, Dave and Claire are joined by freshwater filmmaker Mark (Beneath British Waters) Barrow, a man who has spent over 35 years documenting life beneath the surface of the UK’s rivers.

What begins as a conversation about filmmaking quickly becomes something more urgent: a first-hand account of how dramatically our rivers have changed—and not for the better.

With the fourth main river filming session now completed, we have now been concentrating on the lady of the stream, the grayling, and so far some beautifully presented specimens have been appearing.

Only brief, but what a wonderful experience to have a catfish come and check me out. From my perspective as a filmmaker, these freshwater giants are truly unique and highly attuned to their environment. Moments like this are why I film in freshwater.

CATFISH
A Brief snippet of yesterday's filming.
I never imagined that I would find catfish within inches of my face; I could quite literally have reached out and touched them. These remarkable fish appeared deeply intrigued by this unusual creature in the water, producing bubbles and wearing fins. It was fascinating to observe them attempting to understand what I was, using their senses to investigate and assess.

I am always cautious around catfish and make a conscious effort not to intrude upon their space. However, on this occasion, I had little choice—they approached me of their own accord. It was an extraordinary day of filming at a stunning lake, and I am truly delighted by the entire experience of capturing these impressive freshwater giants.
Holy Mackerel Predatorl Angling will be given all the underwater footage to use for their own videos.
