Many of us grew up hiding…
Hiding our hands when the teacher asked a question. Hiding behind our friends so we wouldn’t be called out. Hiding our voices because we were scared of getting it wrong.
We were that quiet girls and boys, rehearsing answers in our heads, praying no one would notice us 😩.
And somehow, that fear followed us into adulthood 😫. And now, when we feel called to show up, speak out, or create something meaningful… We freeze. We overthink. We shrink. Chai 😨
But here’s what I’ve learned:
That scared girl? She was never lacking, she just didn’t know how powerful her voice could be.
So if you’ve been feeling the nudge to show up online but you’re scared and don’t know where to start…
This is for you.
Let me share 5 gentle, practical steps to help you begin, even if you're starting scared.
1. Start with what you know and who you’re called to speak to. You don’t need a fancy strategy. Just start with what’s real to you.
What do people always ask you about?
What do you have experience in?
Who are you passionate about helping?
Start where you are. Use what you have. Speak to who you know. Don’t try to be someone else who you don't know how she got started.
2. Pick one or two platform, don’t try to be everywhere.
Choose one or two space, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and one type of content to begin with:
It can be Videos, Carousels, Written captions, Stories or short Reels
Master one, then grow. Don't get yourself overwhelmed by trying to do all content formats.
3. Focus on Helping, Not Impressing
Content creation isn’t about looking good, it’s much about being useful, sharing valuable contents.
Ask: What does my audience need today? Who can my story inspire today?
Encourage, educate, inspire, entertain and lead with service, not pressure.
4. Practice in Safe Spaces
You don’t have to go live or post to a thousand people today. Start small, record videos on your phone and don’t post them, just get used to seeing yourself. Share stories with close friends or on private accounts. Write captions in your notes app just to practice your voice.
Consistency builds confidence. Start where it feels safe.
5. Create a Simple Routine That Works for You
If you're waiting to “feel ready,” you'll never start.
Instead, build a simple rhythm:
Choose 2–3 content days each month.
Plan 3 post ideas at a time.
Use templates or prompts to make it easier.
This isn’t about pressure, it’s about purpose. And purpose needs structure to grow.
Just because yourself, take that first bold step and as you start and consistently doing it, you'll get better at it.
