𝟗 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬. 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭. 🙌

Vertex BD joined us back in 2016, and it’s been a pleasure supporting their global outreach ever since. For those who don’t know, Vertex BD specialises in automated Building Information Modelling (BIM) software for wood and cold-formed steel framing - a niche product with a very specific global audience that we’re proud to help them reach.

What makes this extra special is that we’re now sharing our second video testimonial with Gareth at Vertex BD. The first one was filmed way back in 2017 after just 2 years of working together. In that video, Gareth proudly shared how we’d helped him grow from 50 LinkedIn connections to over 3,000, alongside thousands more across other social media platforms we managed for them.

Fast forward another 7 years… and Gareth is now on a whopping 21,000+ connections. 🚀

And here’s the part that always makes me smile… my wife Eve manages the Vertex account. She’s genuinely passionate about their business, so much so that a couple of years ago she was at our son’s friend’s birthday party when another parent (who happened to be an architect) asked what she did. Later on, he told me how blown away he was by Eve’s enthusiasm and deep knowledge of Vertex BD - he actually thought she worked for them full-time!

That’s exactly how we aim to work with every client: to know your business inside-out and feel like an extension of your team, not just a service provider.

We absolutely love seeing Vertex BD continue to grow year on year, and we’re proud to play a small part in their success.

𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠… 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐧!

💍 Celebrated 14 years of marriage.
🎉 Had a traditional wedding in my wife’s home country, Botswana.
❤️ Our son Daniel got to see us “get married” this time.

It was also a first for me… a whole month working fully remote.

𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥, normality resumes (well, as normal as it ever gets when you run your own business!).

Here’s to September and the final push of the year:
✅ Back in the office with the team.
✅ Keeping the wins coming for our clients.

Nothing beats that feeling - finishing a climb before most people have even hit snooze. A reminder that small wins early on set the tone for the whole day.

Christmas Eve. Christchurch, New Zealand. 25 years old.

It was baking hot (which threw me - being a Brit at Christmas). I was relaxing in Cathedral Square when I saw a group of people huddled around a giant chess board.

I had no clue how to play.

But I stood and watched… fascinated.

When I got home, I asked a friend to teach me.

I've been obsessed with chess ever since - playing people from all over the world. I was recently promoted to Legend League on Chess.com after winning my way through all the tournaments.

Now here’s where it gets interesting...

The deeper I got into chess, the more I realised something:

At their core, chess and marketing strategy follow the same principles.
♟️ You need to anticipate moves before they happen.
♟️ You need to think five steps ahead.
♟️ You don’t just play what’s in front of you - you play the person, the position, and the timing.

After 25+ years in sales and marketing, strategy is still what gets me out of bed every day.

I’m always thinking - how can we do this better?
How can we help our clients stand out from their competitors?
How can we create the right moves to win?

Because anyone can make noise.
But winning attention? Building real relationships? Getting results?

That takes strategy.

After 4 years of Zoom calls, we finally got to meet in real life! 🙌

Yesterday we had the pleasure of catching up with our long-term clients Tim and Evie from Save Water Save Money - a brilliant company with an international client base stretching from the UK to Australia and the US.

They’ve been with us since 2021, and while we speak regularly over Zoom, there’s something special about meeting face to face.

Great conversation, lots of laughs, and a proper reminder of the value of real human connection in business.

What happened to proper salespeople - you know, the ones who actually do their research? 🤔

I get multiple sales calls every week - and most are hard work. Not because I’m a tough sell, but because the person calling doesn’t want a conversation… They just want to talk at me.

Here’s how two calls went this week (word for word):

Caller: Hi, is that John at Bee Social Marketing?
Me: Yes.
Caller: And you specialise in website design?
Me: No.
Caller: Ok… SEO and email marketing?
Me: Nope.
Caller: So… what do you do?
Me: You called me - you tell me?

😳

It’s just a scattergun approach. They’re clearly working through a list of marketing agencies, assuming we all offer the same services. We don’t. A quick look at our website or LinkedIn would’ve told them that.

I've had 25+ years of sales training - and here’s what’s still true today:

✅ Do your research
✅ Let the other person speak
✅ Actually listen

It’s not rocket science. When you listen, you might actually uncover a way to help.

7am. The office is quiet. Just me, the flicker of the lights, and the 7am news murmuring in the background, a peaceful moment before the day kicks in.

After 4 years of remote working, this week marks a big shift for us at 𝐁𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, we're officially back in the office. And honestly? I’m loving it. ❤️

I’ve spent most of my career in office environments. And while working from home had its perks (yes, I’ll miss the lie-ins and walking my son Daniel to school), nothing beats the buzz of being together, the collaboration, the quick-fire ideas, the “have you got a sec?” chats that spark something brilliant.

Being back has brought a spark I didn’t realise I’d missed. It’s only week one, but already it feels like we’re reconnecting with what made our culture so strong to begin with - real connection, real-time creativity, and a sense of shared purpose.

My 7-year-old son Daniel joined me at the office this weekend. He’s been curious where I’ve been spending all my time now we’re back full-time, so I gave him the grand tour.

He gave it a big thumbs up… but also wanted to know where his seat is, seeing as he’s listed as “𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧” on our website 😂

We had a couple of hours together while I got some bits done and I’ll be honest, having him there was a lovely reminder of why I do what I do.
