The Cage

BBC has dropped the first sneak peeks of The Cage, a high‑stakes crime drama set against the gritty world of a Liverpool casino — and it’s already being tipped as one of 2026’s most thrilling new series.

Created and written by Tony Schumacher (best known for The Responder), The Cage follows two casino workers, Leanne (Sheridan Smith) and Matty (Michael Socha), who both discover they’re secretly stealing from the same safe. As their dangerous double‑cross collides with a ruthless local gangster and the police, loyalties, lies and dark secrets begin to unravel.

Already filmed across iconic Liverpool and Merseyside locations, the five‑part series boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Barry Sloane and Geraldine James, with direction by Al Mackay and production by Element Pictures for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Set to debut sometime in 2026, The Cage blends crime, tension, heartbreak and sharp character drama into a story that’s both unpredictable and deeply personal — and fans are already counting down to its premiere.

5 is bringing a brand-new drama to the North East! 🎬

Forever Home, based on Graham Norton’s best-selling novel, begins filming in Northumberland with support from the North East Production Fund.

Produced by FilmNation Entertainment and The Mediapro Studio and developed for screen by Executive Producer Kirstie Macdonald from South Shields, the series stars North East talent including Lewis Cope (Emmerdale, Strictly Come Dancing) and Denise Welch (Tip Toe, Waterloo Road), and brings real jobs and opportunities to the region - 65% of crew across North East Production Fund-backed shows are from the North East.

Corriedale was proper decent for so many reasons - the very concept of it super cool! The technical aspects of camera work and lighting were superb out on that dark road and the vehicle stunts were epic. Cinematic! 🔥
Amazing how much positive discussion it’s generated in the press and between folks at home, etc. People love these two shows anyway but this was something else.
🐑 Team Emmerdale (which we have more experience of over the decades) is such an impressive operation with some brilliant people and we love working on the show. ❤️
