Air India Plane Crashes After Takeoff from Ahmedabad - Over 240 On Board 🇮🇳✈️🇬🇧

Tragedy struck this morning as Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India. The aircraft was carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.

💥 The plane lost altitude less than a minute after departure, crashing into the Meghani Nagar area — reportedly striking a residential doctors’ hostel. Massive flames and black smoke filled the skies, as seen in heart-wrenching eyewitness videos.

🚑 Emergency crews rushed to the scene. A "green corridor" was set up for ambulances, while fire services battled flames for hours. Ahmedabad airport temporarily suspended all flights.

The cockpit was led by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar, both experienced pilots.

🕯️ Official casualty numbers are yet to be confirmed, but the impact area suggests a significant loss of life. Our thoughts are with all the families affected by this horrific crash.

💬 India's Civil Aviation Minister and Gujarat's Chief Minister are personally overseeing the situation, while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a statement offering full support to affected British nationals.

⚠️ This marks the first major crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since its debut, raising serious concerns globally about aircraft safety.

A new parking system is now in place at Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara Sahib in the Nottingham Street Car Park 🚗

What to do:
1️⃣ Applicable to the vehicles that are parked at Nottingham Street Car Park
2️⃣ Use the self-service tablet outside the Main Diwaan Hall (First Floor) within 15 minutes of parking.
3️⃣ This gives you 6 hours of free parking.
Need more time? Re-register before your time runs out.

REMEMBER:
🆓️ Parking remains FREE for all Sangat visiting the Gurdwara Sahib, after registration
🛑 The system helps ensure the car park is used only by Gurdwara visitors and prevents misuse.
🎉 On busy festival days, no registration will be needed — the Sangat will be notified in advance.

Let’s all follow the process to keep Gurdwara Sahib’s facilities accessible to all. 🙌

What an inspiring day at the Sikhlens Arts & Film Festival – UK Chapter at Phoenix Cinema, Leicester! 🎬✨

The Sikhlens team set up a stunning exhibition space, setting the stage for a day full of culture, creativity, and community spirit. The event opened beautifully with Shabad Kirtan by the talented children of Falcons Primary School, followed by a soulful song performance and an uplifting Kirtan by the Namdhari Kirtan Jatha.

We also had the pleasure of watching the Falcons Primary School 10-Year Anniversary video, a moment of pride and reflection for the local community, and a special film presented by SikhLens.

From powerful films and inspiring speakers to live music and touching moments, today truly was a celebration of Sikh heritage, unity, and creativity. 💛

Thank you to everyone who joined us — the venue was buzzing, seats were full, and the energy was unforgettable. If you missed it this year, make sure to mark your calendars for the next one!

VE Day – Remembering the Sikh Contribution

Today on VE Day (Victory in Europe Day), we pause to honour the bravery and sacrifices of all those who fought for freedom during World War II. Among them were tens of thousands of Sikh soldiers who served valiantly in the British Indian Army.

Sikhs made up only 2% of the Indian population at the time, yet contributed over one million men to the Allied war effort. Their courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty earned them respect on battlefields across Europe, North Africa, and beyond.

We remember their role in the liberation of Europe, especially in Italy, France, and the Netherlands, where Sikh soldiers fought with distinction and helped turn the tide of war.

Let us never forget the Sikh values of selfless service, bravery, and justice that these soldiers upheld. We honour their memory and express our deepest gratitude.

Vaisakhi Gurmat Samagam | Leicester | 27th April 2025
🌸✨ Celebrating the Khalsa Sajna Divas & Vaisakhi ✨🌸
For the first time ever, Leicester hosted a vibrant open-air Vaisakhi celebration, beautifully organised by the Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara Sahib management team and dedicated sevadars. The event brought the sangat together in the spirit of seva, simran, and celebration.
👳‍♂️ The Sikh Motorcycle Club UK, alongside the Turban King Team, proudly offered Turban Tying Seva, helping people of all ages experience the pride of wearing a Dastar. The Club also supported the full-day live broadcast on Channel Punjab page.
🍲 The food stalls were a big highlight, with amazing seva offerings including:
Noodles, Fries, Pakore, Bread Pakore, Manchurian, Shardai, Ice Cream, Mango Lassi, Fruit Chaat, Banana Split, Bhale, Papdi Chaat, Curry-Chaul, Gajrela, Chana Masala, Drinks – and so much more!
🌤️ The weather was on our side – bright, warm, and perfect for this first-of-its-kind outdoor celebration in Leicester.
