Something NEW has appeared on the High Street 👀

A new restaurant called Kumo is getting ready to open here in Leicester. Taking over the former Wellgosh, well half of it. Right now the doors are still closed and there isn’t much concrete to say yet, but sometimes branding does the talking before anything else.

What we can highlight is that this is another example of the huge array of cuisines we now have in Leicester. Within just a few streets you can find food from all over the world, something most cities dream of and something many places never achieve.

From what we can see through the windows, the look is clean, modern and very Japanese inspired. The logo is bold and simple, the signage feels considered, and the whole frontage has that exciting something different is coming energy.

It’s early days, details are thin, menus unknown, opening date not confirmed. But first impressions matter and this one looks like it could be a really cool addition to the city.

We’ll share more as Kumo on Leicester’s High Street starts to reveal its story. Leicester might have another new spot to get excited about 🙌

A Leicester icon, finally getting some love? 🍺🏛️ If you’ve walked past the corner of Albion Street and Chatham Street lately, you’ve definitely noticed The Black Boy. This 1920s beauty has been boarded up and silent since 2012, but it looks like its “ghost building” era might finally be coming to an end.

Swipe through to see the state it’s in today ➡️

For a while, it looked like we were going to lose almost everything but the exterior walls to a massive development. But the latest news for 2026 is much more promising! New plans have been put forward to actually restore and preserve the building, converting it into a handful of apartments while keeping that classic street-corner presence we all know and love.

It’s one of those spots that holds so much city history, from the chimney sweep heritage of its name to its 100-year-old stonework. It’s not derelict yet, but it’s definitely “ravaged by neglect,” as one councillor put it.

Here’s hoping the scaffolding goes up for the right reasons soon. 🛠️✨

A 10,000-seat concert venue could be coming to Leicester as part of a bold new vision to revitalise our city centre and boost footfall around Haymarket and beyond.

To be crystal clear, these are just ideas at the moment but local business leaders in the Leicester Growth Engine forum say such a venue would help unlock the city’s “full potential”, attract visitors, create jobs and put Leicester on the map as a premier destination for live music and events.

Alongside this, they’re urging a redevelopment of the Haymarket Shopping Centre into a modern hub of retail, hospitality and workspaces in a bid of reshaping the heart of the city.

This idea forms part of a 10-year vision to strengthen Leicester’s economy, support jobs, and enhance city-centre life for residents and visitors alike.

From big nights out to everyday city vibrancy, Leicester’s future is could be louder. 🎤 What do you think?

Leiecster Train Station Update 🚂🏗️ Completion looking like 2029! 😔

Leicester City Council is still pushing ahead with the £22.6m refurbishment of the London Road railway station, despite facing delays in securing a contractor.

A fresh attempt to appoint a construction firm is coming in the new year. The Major expressed frustration (aren’t we all) but remains committed to this very important project for our community.

The ambitious plans, which received planning permission in October 2024, include a radical transformation. The main entrance will move from London Road to Station Street, which will be permanently closed to traffic and replaced with a stunning new pedestrianised public plaza.

This new outdoor space will feature green areas and landscaping. Inside, the station’s existing covered entrance hall will be turned into a new plaza for shopping, food, and drink, truly making it a huge upgrade upon completion!

If a deal can be successfully agreed in early 2026, the council has indicated that this exciting project will be completed by mid-2029 😕 which is still a long time away!

This overhaul will not only restore the historic building but will create a modern, vibrant, and welcoming gateway for everyone arriving in our city.

We hope this can get sorted soon as this is such an important part of the city and having this tourist heavy spot constantly under construction is bad for the brand of Leicester.

The evolutions of the High Street, Highcross Entrance ➡️ Swipe through to see the brand NEW gateway and what it once was.

This part of the transformation was the first phase of the bold entrance redesign project. Work is now set to move into the second phase of the programme, in early January 2026, the focus will shift to the East Gate (Main Entrance) and Bond Street entrances, with East Gate set to be closed off while those upgrades take place. These next entrances will also carry that fashion-inspired design language that nods to Leicester’s textiles heritage.

🛠️ The phased approach means Highcross can keep life in the city centre flowing with shoppers still able to enter through other doors while work continues.

This transformation isn’t just about new looks, it’s about celebrating Leicester’s identity. From textiles to trendsetting, Highcross is becoming a gateway that’s both modern and rooted in the story of our city.

What do you think to the recent upgrade to ?
