Whose ‘House’ is it 🤔 Ever wondered why so many buildings in Leicester are called “House”? It’s a nod to the city’s rich history and evolving identity.

This naming style goes back to a time when grand homes and estates lined the streets of Leicester. As the city grew, many of these buildings were converted into offices, apartments or commercial spaces, but their original names stayed. It adds a touch of heritage and character that’s hard to miss.

Today, the name “House” is still used in modern developments and rebrands. Whether it’s an office block or a student flat conversion, it gives a sense of prestige and permanence. Even former stables and outbuildings have been reimagined and renamed, like Coach House, blending history with modern life.

So next time you pass a building with “House” in its name, take a second look. There’s probably a story behind it. Just one of the many ways Leicester connects its past to its present. Check out the last image in the album too, just for the 😂

There’s something brewing over at and it’s not just the coffee.

This hidden spot in the Cultural Quarter has had a full revamp and we’re a fan. The new decor gives it a fresh, modern edge while keeping that same laid-back vibe that made it such a hit in the first place. It the kind of space you actually want to spend your mornings in.

Curveside is serving up a full selection of freshly made pastries and food, all prepared in-house. Whether you’re after a flaky croissant, a stacked sandwich or something a little sweet to go with your flat white, everything tastes as good as it looks.

And speaking of flat whites, the coffee is still absolutely spot on.

If you haven’t popped by since the refresh, now’s the time. A proper gem in Leicester’s coffee scene, made even better.

Work has begun on the entrances! 👷🚧

The first phase is underway with the High Street and Church gate entrances starting renovations. The High Street entrance will be closed for the duration of the works and reopen on 22 November, while Church Gate will remain open while the work happens.

The Highcross Shopping Centre announced an exciting redevelopment plan aimed at transforming its entrances to celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage at the end of 2024z

The plan is to transform and reimagine the centre’s four main entrances; East Gates, High Street, Church Gate, and Bond Street.

Each entrance will become a unique urban landmark, reflecting Leicester’s legacy in fashion and textiles.

Each entrance design will draw from fashion themes, including elements like a “runway,” a curtain reveal, and a twisted pleat feature, all symbolizing the textures and forms that Leicester is known for. This work will be phased over six months, aiming to minimize disruption for shoppers.

The goal is to position each entrance as both a landmark and a gateway to key routes throughout the city.
