For our 100th post, we’re highlighting the key part of R10.EMS… our EMS Synthi 100.

Built in 1971 by Electronic Music Studios (EMS), the Synthi 100 is one of only around 30 ever made. Designed for serious sound synthesis, it was mainly used by institutions like the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and state-funded studios across Europe.

Synthi 100 016 is housed at R10.EMS in Leicester, where it’s undergoing restoration as part of a Heritage Lottery-funded project. The work involves historical research, engineering surveys, and the development of new creative uses for the instrument.

Once fully restored, our Synthi 100 will be available for use by artists, researchers, and the public, through a series of events, workshops and sessions designed to be accessible by anyone with an interest…
