You know this song. You just don't know it yet.

Tougher Than the Rest is a Bruce Springsteen track from Tunnel of Love (1987). Nation of Language covered it this year on Sub Pop. They used a Yamaha CS-80 — the same synth model Springsteen used on the original. Frontman Ian Devaney grew up in New Jersey surrounded by Springsteen's music — and somehow missed this one until a few years ago. It found him anyway. This show is full of things that find you late. Jack Antonoff didn't produce Taylor Swift's new album. First time in years.

This is what he made instead. A Bleachers track called i'm not joking, from the album Everyone for Ten Minutes — out May 22. He plays harpsichord and Dobro on it. Nia Archives called her new album Emotional Junglist. She made it with James Ford — the producer of Arctic Monkeys and Blur.

Boys In Blue was written after a sudden breakup. She reframed it as a victory. The video pulls from Fiona Apple and PJ Harvey. The album is out in July. Less Than Zero played it Thursday night, the week it dropped. Follow to hear what's new every week before it's everywhere.

In 1971, David Bowie released Moonage Daydream under a fake name. Nobody bought it.

He'd invented a band called Arnold Corns. The single went nowhere. He took the song back, rerecorded it, and put it third on Ziggy Stardust. That was on this exact date, fifty-five years ago. Swim Deep are five albums in and still finding new ones.

The chorus for Mud came to frontman Austin Williams fully formed. He assumed it must already exist — that it couldn't be original. It was. Bill Ryder-Jones produced the album. It's called Hum, and it's out in June. This is what Less Than Zero sounds like on a Friday. Follow for more every week.

mer marcum is a Brooklyn artist who released her debut EP this year. The song's called Holiday, 2008 — she named it after a year she was a child. That's track one of tonight's show. Also tonight: a Bowie song he tried to bury and put out under a fake name. A Springsteen song you don't realise is a Springsteen song. Three hidden anniversaries woven into the running order — none of them announced on air. Link in bio.

They released this album. Broke up. It became famous without them.

Refused were a hardcore band from Sweden. The Shape of Punk to Come came out in 1998, then they split. They reunited in 2012 to find out what they'd made. This is New Noise.
