The Leven Bats: Swinging for Something Bigger in Our Community

Leven just got a little louder — and a lot more exciting — with the arrival of its very own baseball club: The Leven Bats More than just a new sports team, the Bats are quickly becoming a symbol of community, positivity, and fresh energy in our town.

After hosting their first training session at Buckhaven Braes, it’s clear that something special is in motion. With gloves on and bats in hand, a group of enthusiastic players — some complete beginners, others with a bit more experience — took to the field with one goal in mind: to enjoy the game and build something new for Leven.

A New Chapter for Local Sport

In a town where the sporting spotlight usually shines on football, The Leven Bats are carving out a fresh space. Baseball, with its unique rhythm, teamwork, and strategic flair, offers something different — and very welcome.

We spoke with one of the team’s founding members after the session, who told us:
“It’s not just about the sport — it’s about giving people a place to connect, have fun, and try something new without pressure. We had people come along who’d never even held a bat before, and they were smiling and swinging by the end of the session. That’s what this is about.”

What makes the Bats stand out is their inclusive, no-judgement approach. Right now, the club is open to anyone aged 16 and over, regardless of experience or fitness level. The energy is welcoming, the coaching is relaxed, and the vibe is all about community.

Why Baseball, Why Now?

Baseball might be new to Leven, but the response shows there’s a real appetite for it. The team is tapping into something people are clearly craving: a sport that’s fun, different, and rooted in respect and connection.

Though the team is currently limited to players aged 16+, there’s already interest in expanding in the future, with potential youth sessions and more structured matches once momentum builds.

Want to Get Involved?

The Leven Bats are actively welcoming new players (age 16+), supporters, volunteers, and anyone who’s just curious about what’s happening. You don’t need gear, experience, or any prior knowledge — just a bit of curiosity and a willingness to give it a go.

📍 Next training sessions will be posted on their social media, so keep your eye out. If you’re local and fancy something new, just show up — you'll be welcomed.

The Future Looks Bright for the Bats

From a small idea to a first session at Buckhaven Braes, The Leven Bats are already proving that grassroots sport can do more than entertain — it can unite, uplift, and energise a community.

So whether you’re ready to swing a bat, cheer from the sidelines, or just see what it’s all about, now’s the time to get involved.

Go Bats! 🦇⚾️

⚾️ The Leven Bats Take Flight at Buckhaven Braes! 🦇

Big news for local sports fans — The Leven Bats Baseball Club has officially kicked off with their first training session at Buckhaven Braes, and it was a hit! 💥

With gloves on, bats ready, and energy high, a passionate group of players came together to launch what we hope will become one of Leven’s most exciting new sports communities. From first-timers to seasoned ballplayers, the vibe was all about learning, fun, and team spirit.

Why Baseball? Baseball brings something new to Leven — a chance to try a unique sport that’s all about strategy, coordination, and pure excitement. The Leven Bats aren’t just building a team, they’re building a movement — one swing at a time.

It's Not the Bronx Yet, But Leven Faces Ongoing Crime Struggles

Leven continues to grapple with a troubling wave of local crime, leaving business owners and residents alike feeling increasingly disheartened.

Just yesterday, the owner of The Crown Inn shared two emotional and desperate posts on Facebook, calling on the community for support:

"Please guys - keep your kids under control - I am under enough stress with the business being closed due to kids setting fire to next door, getting windows broken and now this 🤬 What has happened to our town 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I am doing my best to keep my property secure - help a lassie out please 🙏"

"So it would seem my business is now the target of the little cherubs that seem to be ruling our little town. Please, please folks - be vigilant. My business is neither unwanted nor unloved by many, and the shutters are only down due to an ongoing legal issue, which I hope to resolve soon. I am doing my best to keep it secure and in condition to be ready for reopening, so would ask everyone to keep an eye out for me. Thank you 🙏"

This frustration echoes sentiments we’ve heard before. Just over a month ago, we published an article provocatively asking: "How safe do you feel in Leven?"

While we received supportive messages from people voicing concerns over the town’s growing security issues, others dismissed it as "scaremongering."

A Troubling Timeline

Since that article, incidents have continued to escalate:

- A man broke into cars and vans over several days before being arrested.

- A local café had to replace a window shattered by a BB gun during the night.

- A yet-to-open restaurant was targeted by a break-in.

- The Threeways Inn was severely damaged by a fire.

- Bins at the promenade were set alight.

These incidents paint a picture of growing instability that’s hard to ignore.

Balancing the Good with the Bad

Amid this rising crime, it’s crucial to remember that Leven has so much to offer.

From our vibrant businesses to our tourist attractions and community events, there is much to celebrate about our town.

But the question remains: Where is the end to this wave of crime?

We need proactive solutions to tackle these issues—whether it's improved police presence, community-driven initiatives, or stronger efforts to engage with youth and prevent delinquency. This is not just about protecting businesses; it’s about safeguarding the heart of our town and its future.

What’s Next?

As a community, we must ask ourselves:

- How do we work together to restore safety and security in Leven?

- How do we ensure that incidents like these become the exception, not the rule?

The time to act is now. For the sake of our local businesses, our residents, and the town's reputation, we must demand change and take collective responsibility. Together, we can ensure that Leven remains a place where people want to live, work, and visit.

Young Raids Strike Again: No. 56 Wine & Tapas Targeted in Leven

Leven has been hit by yet another youth raid, this time targeting No56 Wine + Tapas. This isn't the first time the local business has been the victim of such attacks. The owners took to Facebook to express their frustration, stating that they "keep reporting and they cannot do more."

The ongoing issue of youth-related incidents is becoming a serious concern for local businesses, with raids and break-ins happening all too frequently. Many in the community are left wondering when action will be taken to prevent these attacks from continuing.

Local residents and business owners are growing increasingly anxious, and the reputation of Leven as a safe town is being called into question.

Between 1-2 am last night, Bayne's the Baker in Leven was the latest victim of a break-in.

Despite attempts to contact Bayne's head office, they declined to comment on the incident.

The real concern lies with the future.

Leven's reputation is on the line, and the safety of its residents and entrepreneurs is increasingly in question.
