Neighbourhood cat lands purrfect modelling gig…

Okay, there’s no contractual agreement, but I think she’s got used to me snapping away.
And, as long as she gets some love and head scratches she’s happy.

I love candid photos of our feline friends. And although you can’t make them sit and stay in a particular position I think this adds to the natural feel of the photos.

Not going to gate keep- most of the photographs you see on social media and websites will have had some form of editing.
Some go heavy on the editing, some for a fine art edit, while others upgrade photos by some simple tweaks.

This is an example of some of those simple tweaks. With this photo of the gorgeous Pretzel, I used Lightroom Mobile to increase the detail and texture- especially in her eyes and around her nose and mouth. I altered shadows and highlights a little, before playing with the black point and dehaze to give this particular photo the look I was after.

And if you want to see the original.. head into comments.

If you need permission, this might be it..

These are some of the photos I’ve taken when experimenting with slow shutter speed.
Each was taken in different lighting conditions, with other variables.

As you can see, they are very different to my usual honest, true-to-life style.

And, truth be told, when I took them, I knew the effect I was looking for but didn’t know how they would turn out.
So, I gave myself permission to fail.

They’re not perfect, but they are my reminder to try something different now and then- to experiment.

A promise is a promise. And I did say I’d share more from my shoot with Hope Meadows Equine Assisted Recovery CIC

My goal here was to show what makes this place special—the people, the horses—beyond simple posed portraits.
What’s more, with the use of a 70-300mm lens, no humans or horses were made to feel uncomfortable by having a camera shoved in their face!

Stay tuned for more.

We have a winner!! Thank you to all who cast their votes and shared thoughts in the black and white versus colour showdown.
While I've always had a soft spot for black and white, I can't help but agree with you about the colour edit's vibrance.
Stay tuned tomorrow when I'll unveil more gems from these special shoots!

This was a shot from time spent at the wonderful Hope Meadows Equine Assisted Recovery CIC

But I can’t decide; black and white or colour?

Let me know what you think in the comments and keep your eyes peeled for more from this special shoot.

I put off downloading an editing app for a long time. Why? Because, I made the assumption that it would be difficult to use.

So, I finally got over myself and downloaded Lightroom Mobile and decided to practice in this before I venture into the full scale version.

This photo of the gorgeous George, was taken with my phone, and I was disappointed with how it turned out.

So he became my first edit ‘guinea-pig’.
It’s not perfect by any stretch, but it was practice, and a start.
See the 2nd photo for how it looked in the beginning.

And now? I’m still practising because there is always something new to learn and skills to consolidate.
