Free entry to Rufford Old Hall with Heritage Open Days!

We’ve visited Rufford Old Hall quite a few times over the years, but went back today because it was free entry as part of the Heritage open days weekend. 😂

It’s not the biggest National trust property, but it does have a hall and some gorgeous gardens to explore.

It’s worth going in the hall to see the huge wooden moveable screen that’s over 500 years old. It’s the only known screen of its type to have survived intact. It’s absolutely huge, so I’ve no idea how they moved it.

🌳10 PARKS TO EXPLORE IN LIVERPOOL

Liverpool has so many brilliant parks - from
the most well known to some smaller less known ones.

This is 10 of my favourite Liverpool Parks. Have you visited them all?

Hillside Dunes are a quieter walk through the Southport sand dunes.

They are located between Hillside golf club and Royal Birkdale golf club. So you get lots of golf views as you walk through the dunes too.

It’s a gorgeous walk with dunes trees and plants everywhere, so the views are lovely.

However, my top tip is don’t wear sandals. There’s lots of stones, brambles and shells (obviously 😂) and I was forever stopping to pick out bits from my sandals .

The dunes aren’t far from Hillside train
station and there are a couple of public footpaths where you can start your walk.

When we were there they were still taking down all the stuff from The Open, so that was good to see too.

There’s no parking, it’s just on road parking.

Park Farm Mookshake Shack in Garstang is not just your average milkshake vending machine.

It’s based on a family-run dairy farm and there are a few milkshake vending machines, so there’s no big queues.
If you don’t fancy a milkshake you can have a self serve ice cream or coffee. (I can highly recommend the Biscoff milkshake😍)

The best part of this milkshake visit is that you can also have a free mini farm visit.

Right next to the vending machines there is a little farm that you can walk through. You can see cows (so, so many cows) goats, sheep, horses and some alpacas.

It’s a lovely way to spend 30 mins and you walk away with a milkshake, so it’s a win win.

Have you heard of the Liverpool Plinth?

It’s an art space that showcases a different sculpture for 12 months at a time. The plinth is outside Liverpool Parish church. Look up if you’re trying to find it.

This year Wirral artist Patric Rogers is displaying his sculpture called Skalli.

(In my head I keep saying it as “scally”, but I’ve no idea if that’s right! 😂)

Skalli is a half-human, half-fish figure and it’s based on a mythical creature from the River Mersey. It looks so bizarre sat outside the church looking out to sea.
