Post production can be the most fun and the most infuriating thing of all. You deep dive into the track and really focus on the details.. maybe spend an hour just getting that reverse reverb to give the song a lush sweep.. because firstly it needs to be the right sounds for the reverb then the right reverb and the right length of the reverb and the right size of the space of the reverb and the right mix between the Dry/Wet signal of the reverb… and now you need to find the right place for it. Or you know that sound that you recorded with your iPhone and you want to make it sound like the perfect percussion sound at 1:32 in the track, a sound that maybe 3% of the people who listens to that track later will even recognise let alone appreciate. Infuriating when it doens’t work and you’ve just spent several hours obsessing about something that would make out 25% of the sonic landscape for about half a second in that one song, but also the best when it works and you get that little sensation of pride as you listen back to it.
