Mohamed Salah has been named Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for the third time this season.
The No.11 received the award for November at the AXA Training Centre after an outstanding run of form to help the Reds open up leads in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Salah started all five games during the month and scored four times – an emphatic decider against Brighton & Hove Albion, a clincher versus Aston Villa and the match-winning brace away at Southampton.
He also created three goals, including one apiece for Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz when Bayer Leverkusen were beaten 4-0 at Anfield.
In our Player of the Month poll of supporters, Salah finished ahead of Caoimhin Kelleher in second place, with Gakpo voted third.
“Of course [I’m happy], I know I’ve won it a few times before – but as long as the team are winning games, that’s the most important thing,”
“It’s great, especially as some of the goals made a difference for winning games, so that’s the most important thing. Overall, the performance of the team has been great, so hopefully we can continue like this.”
Salah has played an instrumental role in helping Liverpool to sit atop both the Premier League and Champions League tables heading into the festive period.
Asked if he is playing some of the best football of his career, he replied: “Probably yes, probably yes. The team together play good football, are controlling games.
“We understand each other more now. Last year, new players came into the team and now we understand each other more and, overall, I’m pleased with it.
“We have a good game plan and everybody is giving his best. We probably struggled a little bit at the end of last season, so we had a good break. We came back and we’ve started very well so hopefully we can continue like that.”
Liverpool are currently preparing for an Anfield encounter with Fulham on Saturday.
The Cottagers held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League last weekend, but Salah insists the Reds must only look inwardly as they aim to maintain their position at the summit.
He explained: “I think it’s necessary to just focus on ourselves because other teams will be trying to win their games. You play in the Premier League, so nothing is ever going to be easy.
“If you want to win the Premier League you have to win your games and see what [happens] with the rest. So, we need to focus on ourselves, make sure we win our games and the rest will follow.
“You’ve seen [Fulham] played really tough games against us last season and also in their last game against Arsenal they played a really good game. It will be tough, but hopefully we can win it.”
