A very special announcement…

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Simon Barber as an Ambassador for The Swan Song Project!

Simon is an Associate Professor of Songwriting at Birrminghan City University as well as the co-host of one of the worlds finest songwriting podcasts, Sodajerker on Songwriting. Simon has interviewed many of the worlds most successful songwriters including Sir Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, Sting and recently Phil Collins, just to name a few. We are delighted that he is going to support our work as an ambassador.

Simon said:

“I’ve spent years talking to songwriters about why they write, and the answer is almost always the same: to say the thing they can’t say any other way. Swan Song gives that power to people at the moment they need it most. I’m proud to support them.”

Thank you Simon for helping to raise awareness of the power of songwriting. We look forward to working more with you.

The Swan Song Project is a small charity that helps terminally ill and bereaved people to write and record an original song. Celebrating Lives, Making Memories and Leaving Legacies.

“With my little guitar, and my little head for writing songs, and my gift for rhyming, I feel like I can just about go anywhere, do anything. I think I could sit in my house forevermore, and just write songs, and be happy.”

We were utterly dumbstruck by the news of Glen Hansard’s death. We spoke with Glen only a few months ago, having wanted him on the show for years. As an interviewee, he was warm, engaging, articulate, and wise, and his passion for the craft of songwriting was tangible - none of which will come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the man and his work. Above all else, what shone through was his essential goodness. We’re grateful to have crossed paths with him, however briefly, and captured a little of his valuable, hard-earned wisdom for safekeeping. Our thoughts are with all who knew and loved Glen at this unimaginably sad time.
