I was stuck at a red light. The sun burned down, dust filled the air, and cars honked all around me. A girl moved between the vehicles, balancing sachets of pure water on her head.
When she lifted her face, my heart stopped.
It was my sister, my little sister, missing for five years. Her clothes were dirty, her hair tangled, and her eyes… her eyes were haunted, like she had seen things no one should see.
“Lola?” I whispered, my voice trembling.
She froze, her eyes wide with fear. “Uncle…?” she stammered.
I reached for her hand. She flinched, but didn’t pull away completely. My chest ached as I realized how much she had suffered. “Where have you been?” I asked softly.
She shook her head quickly, glancing over her shoulder. “I… I can’t talk here. Please… not here,” she whispered.
Before I could say another word, she pushed past the cars and disappeared into the crowd. My heart raced. Five years of searching, and now I had found her—but something was very wrong.
She was alive… but she wasn’t free. And as I sat there, watching the crowd swallow her whole, I realized this was only the beginning.
Someone was hiding the truth about her disappearance. And they would do anything to keep it.
