Data on life expectancy indicates that the statistical midpoint of life arrives much earlier than the cultural benchmark of 50. With the average life expectancy in the U.S. currently sitting at approximately 77 years, the true mathematical “middle age” is actually 38.

If that makes you stop for a second, good. Because it’s a reminder that “later” isn’t guaranteed.
