Nobody looks at pigeons. ๐๏ธ
Too grey. Too common. Too ordinary. People in the park fed the ducks, photographed the swans โ and shooed the pigeon away.
But the old woman on the green bench noticed him. The slight limp. The way he waited politely while others pushed forward. Every morning at nine, she saved him the corner of her bread roll. "Good morning, Sir Walter," she'd say. Because everyone deserves a proper name.
One icy December morning, the woman slipped on the path โ and couldn't get up. The park was empty. Except for one grey bird, who did something pigeons don't do.
He flew straight at the window of the park cafรฉ, again and again, until the waiter came out to see what was wrong โ and found her.
The doctors said an hour in that cold could have ended differently. ๐
Nobody looks at pigeons. Maybe we should. Type ๐๏ธ for Sir Walter.
