Nigeria’s Private Schools: Education or Business Empire?
Education is supposed to build the future, not destroy families financially. In Nigeria today, many private universities and schools are becoming business centres where parents struggle endlessly just to give their children a quality education. Millions upon millions are demanded for school fees, accommodation, and even transcripts.
How can a transcript cost ₦2 million? How can school fees rise to ₦4.5 million in a country where many families are already battling hardship? Institutions like Maduka University need serious scrutiny. Education should not push parents into debt, frustration, or desperation.
If this continues, where are we heading as a nation? Education is becoming a privilege only for the wealthy, while average Nigerians are being priced out of opportunities. Something needs to change before quality education becomes completely unreachable for ordinary citizens.
