Remembering Enoch Light on his birthday. Light was an American classically trained violinist, dance band leader and recording engineer. In 1955, Light founded Grand Award Records and served as president and A&R chief. In 1959 he founded a subsidiary label, Command Records. The first of the albums produced for Command Records, "Persuasive Percussion", became one of the first big-hit LP discs based solely on retail sales.

Remembering Lionel Bart on his birthday. Bart was an English writer and composer of pop music and musicals. He wrote Tommy Steele's "Rock with the Caveman" and was the sole creator of the musical "Oliver!"(1960). Before "Oliver!", Bart's first professional musical was 1959's "Lock Up Your Daughters" followed by "Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'Be", produced by Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop. With these successes Bart played an instrumental role in the 1960s birth of the British musical theatre scene after an era when American musicals had dominated the West End.
In 1963 he won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for "Oliver!", and the 1968 film version of the musical won a total of 6 Academy Awards including the award for Best Picture.
Some of his other songs include the theme song to the James Bond film "From Russia with Love", and the songs "Living Doll" by Cliff Richard and "Do You Mind" recorded by Anthony Newley. Bart also wrote English lyrics to a Chinese popular song "The Second Spring" titled "Ding D**g Song" which became a huge hit in South-East Asia.
