If Showtime followed the instructions it was given, then the crucial question is who supplied those instructions, who controlled the accounts, and who had the fiduciary responsibility to ensure Mayweather was properly paid.
Espinoza’s position is essentially that Showtime was the payer, not the party responsible for deciding where Mayweather’s money ultimately went. In fact, Espinoza has previously explained that Showtime’s contractual relationship was with Mayweather Promotions, which was responsible for disbursing the money.
The current lawsuit complicates things because Mayweather alleges that Showtime and Espinoza knowingly participated in or facilitated a scheme involving payments being directed to accounts associated with Al Haymon. Showtime and Espinoza deny those allegations, and the case is still unresolved.
This is so sad.
