The UK has officially rolled out new visa rules impacting international graduates and skilled professionals. The updates affect the Post-Study Work (PSW) route, Global Talent Visa (GTV), and High Potential Individual (HPI) scheme — reshaping how global talent can live and work in the UK.

Here’s what’s changed ⬇️

🎓 PSW: Stricter conditions on eligibility and stay duration after graduation.

🌐 GTV: Expanded but with tighter endorsement checks and clearer focus on “exceptional” candidates.

🧠 HPI: Refined criteria — to enable greater participation

These changes mark a shift from openness to selectiveness — raising the bar for who qualifies as “global talent.”

Is the UK still the best destination for international graduates? 🤔

📢 Skilled Worker visa holders are the backbone of the UK’s economy.

They fill critical roles in healthcare, education, technology, and infrastructure—sectors that directly impact our daily lives. Yet, despite their invaluable contributions, many face the uncertainty of not being granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).

💼 Economic Impact:

High Tax Contributions: Skilled Worker visa holders contribute significantly to public finances. In 2022-23, the average skilled migrant made a net contribution of about £16,300, compared to £14,400 by a British worker. This is primarily due to their higher average salaries and consistent employment.
Financial Times

Income Tax Contributions: In the 2023-24 tax year, Skilled Worker main applicants paid a median income tax of £8,900, totaling approximately £1.56 billion across all applicants.

🛡️ No Access to Public Benefits:
Despite their economic contributions, Skilled Worker visa holders do not have access to public benefits such as unemployment support, housing assistance, or social welfare programs. They contribute to the system without drawing from it.

⚖️ Unfair Disparity:
While other visa categories, including family reunification and long-term residents, have pathways to ILR, Skilled Worker visa holders—who are actively recruited to fill essential roles—are denied the same opportunity for stability and permanency.

📢 It’s time to recognize the value of Skilled Worker visa holders and grant them the security they deserve.. ⚖️

“Abolishing ILR: Nigel Farage and Reform UK have unveiled a radical plan to scrap Indefinite Leave to Remain, the route to permanent residency in Britain. Under their proposal, legal migrants — including those already granted ILR — would be forced to reapply every 5 years under stricter criteria (higher salary threshold, English proficiency, extended residency period), with no access to welfare or social housing. 🇬🇧💼

They say the grass is greener on the other side , but that might not always be the case. Both Canada and UK have their own advantages and disadvantages. Immigration usually comes down to personal preferences.
