Olivia’s mother was an artist. Their home was always filled with canvases, brushes, and bright colors. She had been working on a large painting of a sunrise for weeks before she became seriously ill.
After she passed away, Olivia visited her studio and found the unfinished canvas. The sun was only half painted. The sky looked paused in time. Olivia touched the brush still resting in the jar and felt tears sting her eyes.
She had never been as talented as her mother, but she wanted to honor her. Slowly, carefully, she began filling in the sky. Each stroke felt like a conversation with the woman she missed deeply.
When she finally finished, she whispered, “Mom, I hope I did this right.”
Olivia hung the painting in her living room. Everyone who visited admired it, but Olivia always smiled quietly and said, “This one took two hearts to complete.”
The painting became a reminder that love can continue through the things we choose to finish for the people we lose.
