Dr. Ibrahim Bangura Declares APC Flagbearer Ambition in Bo, Calls for Unity Ahead of 2028 Elections

BY Sam Sunifu Musa

Bo Supporters of the All People’s Congress (APC) in Bo District on Friday staged a colorful welcome for Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, who formally declared his intention to contest for the APC flagbearer position in the 2028 general elections.

The event was marked by cultural displays, jubilation, and solidarity from party loyalists across the south.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bangura recalled his early days in politics, noting that he was the first student to revive the APC student union at Fourah Bay College following the 1992 coup.

“I am seeking the leadership of the APC because I have the capacity to unite this party. Without peace and discipline, it will be difficult for us to win in 2028. I want to restore respect for party structures and encourage members to work together,” he said.

Dr. Bangura stressed that leadership is ordained by God but affirmed his respect for Dr. Samura Kamara and other APC leaders. He cautioned that internal disputes and divisions could cripple the party’s chances if left unresolved.

“The APC needs the full support of the South-East, not just as an add-on but as a key pillar to victory. Without that support, returning to power will be extremely difficult,” he emphasized.

He further urged both the APC and the ruling SLPP to see each other not as enemies but as partners in development. “Sierra Leone can only move forward if our two major political parties work in the national interest. We must see ourselves as brothers and sisters, not adversaries,” he said.

Highlighting his vision for Sierra Leone, Dr. Bangura pointed to the need for consistent electricity, clean water, affordable food, quality education, better roads, and stronger social services.

He concluded by thanking APC supporters in the South for what he described as a “warm embrace,” urging them to drop individual differences, hatred, and infighting for the greater good of the party .
