My Top 5 things I learned as a solo traveller in my 20s ✨

Travelling solo can be a scary thing to begin with but here are my Top 5 things that I learned as a solo traveller who has been to 15+ countries in my 20s! ✨

1. it's okay to be anxious some times
2. just because you travel alone, doesn't mean you'll be alone
3. people are a lot friendlier than you think
4. if you don't know much about the place, book yourself a guided tour using sites like Viator
5. don't be scared to push yourself out of your comfort zone - you'll be amazed at how much you can actually do!

Can anyone relate? 👀

Happy new year everyone! 🥳

I hope everyone enjoyed their New Year's celebrations!

As we start 2025, I wanted to share this post on what my plans are looking like for 2025!

For me 2025 will be one of the more quieter years as I prepare myself for what's coming in 2026. Preparing myself both mentally and physically! I'll post more about this throughout the year.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that I won't be travelling (just not as much)! The next trip for me will be to Vilnius, Lithuania and straight afterwards back to Liepaja, Latvia and then looking at maybe going to Albania at some point this year. Lithuania and Albania are 2 places in Europe that I still have yet to explore so it will be exciting to visit this year!

This year, I also really want to focus on both of my blogs (explore the world & a recent addition called Tom Solo Travels). Both blogs will have different stories that will be told! The Explore the world blog is be more of a generic community focused blog where as the Tom Solo Travels blog will primarily focus on my adventures across the world.

At the end of 2024, I also changed my username/alias across all platforms to TomSoloTravels, this is also because I want to also start documenting more of MY time in these different countries.

The last picture in this post is my vision board that I created for 2025, I don't usually do vision boards but thought I would switch it up a bit for 2025!

I also now have a code that you can use to get 5% off your next esim when you are travelling throughout the year, simply use SPECIAL5 when you buy your esim!

If you have read this far, comment 💯 below!

I hope everyone has a great and prosperous 2025! ✨

A look inside the House of the Blackheads in Riga ➡️

What is the House of the Blackheads? 📜
The House of the Blackheads is a building situated in the old town of Riga, Latvia. The original building was erected in 1334 as a warehouse, meeting and celebration place for merchants. It was the biggest public building of Riga.

What is the cost to Enter? 💶
It costs 7 Euros (as of March 2024) to look around the inside of the building with three different levels that you can explore!

Why is it called House of Blackheads? 🧺
The Brotherhood of Blackheads was an association of unmarried foreign traders chiefly of Low German descent. Records testify to this brotherhood starting 1413. Its official name was shortened colloquially to the “Blackheads”, and it was to serve social and public causes. Defending the outposts of trade and missionary activities in the Baltic Sea was also among its duties.

Life lately. ✨🌾

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Horse Island Birdwatch Tower In Liepaja! 🇱🇻

Lake Liepāja and the surrounding wet meadows are a “Natura 2000” nature protected area of European importance due to their bird nesting and migration value. Here you will find 27 nesting, 10 wintering and 50 species of particularly protected migratory birds.

Lake Liepāja Horse Island trail is a nice walking trail, with several pathways at the start, including a wide, good-quality wooden boardwalk along the coast with few viewing platforms. There are few outdoor gym devices and resting areas with picnic tables and fireplace sites along the boardwalk. At the end of the boardwalk, the path continues along a narrow dam, with a watching tower for bird watching and enjoying the nice views over the lake landscape.
