In 1970's BAOR a p**n star moustache was almost mandatory. You only have to look at the many photographs from that period, there were p**n stars everywhere... I look back on my old photos and despair of some of the 'taches' which I considered to be cool at the time! Yes, some of the upper lip forestry going on back in the day would put Magnum PI and Freddie Mercury to shame, and to think I honestly thought my bass broom looked the b*llocks.

SLANG
Even now I still talk army slang without even thinking about it. You never lose it, it’s our own secret language, civvies are left clueless. And it really comes out when veterans meet up over a few beers...nobody understands us.
Out with the old, in with the new. I noticed there’s a lot of new military slang appearing on social media nowadays, of course times do change, armies change, but I’m wondering if the old slang words are still alive and kicking? For instance, howling, minging, gopping and barking, all words that relate to something that is in sh*t state like your uniform or body. ‘You need to have a shower mate, you’re minging!!’ And what about these new ones, such as Ally (someone cool), Threaders (Angry or fed up), Green time machine (sleeping bag). What do you think?
Do they still refer to newly Commissioned Officers, i.e. 2nd Lieutenants, fresh from Sandhurst, Ruperts and Rodneys? I think Ruperts and Rodneys came from Spike Milligan's books about the second world war.
I wonder if they still use the phrase ‘NATO STANDARD’ for the standard milk with two sugars brew? Everyone drank it like that back in the day. Or is it latte, mochas, and cappuccinos, nowadays??
War is hell. Modern day British soldier: hold my tea…

The ideal gift for Father’s Day. The Military Humour joke book is full of jokes, cartoons, and urban myths and more so there should be something in here for everyone. With what’s going on in the world today, it's a good thing the military never loses its dark sense of humour.

Boozy breaths. BFT’s. And the unmistakable smell of the Cookhouse swill dustbins.
I remember those Boozy breaths on parade, on a Monday morning, especially in Germany where booze was cheap. What amazes me now, is that once the parade had finished, most of the lads would set off, red eyed and still sh*t faced, to do first parades on their vehicle and drive off in their 55-ton Chieftain tanks and armoured vehicles. Or even worse, they’d be off down the ranges. ‘Firing point number 4, stop waving your bl**dy rifle about!’

The stink of 20 ci******es, mixed with sweat, after a BFT. It was like the ciggy would somehow help you recover from the BFT? You could be coughing your lungs up, but you’d still spark up at the finishing line!! Paid for it later in life though.
The unmistakable smell of the Cookhouse swill dustbins. Why did the contents always resemble a brownie beetroot and custard colour and were nearly always filled to the brim? It was amazing watching the slop jockeys turn the contents of the bins into range stew!!! Then empty the contents into those hay boxes and Norgies to be sent out to the ranges!! Sorry I made that up. The range stew was always the dogs’ b*****ks lads, we all did cookhouse fatigues at some stage, apart from the RAF of course.
BULLIES AND BU****IT 2 Warning! If easily offended, I really do advise you not to read this book.
