HUGE DRUGS BUST Scotland’s biggest ever cannabis farm worth £7MILLION discovered inside former college

Police Scotland confirmed that enquiries are ongoing

SCOTLAND’S biggest ever cannabis farm worth a massive £7million has been discovered inside a former college building.

Cops seized a total of 5,000 plants during a raid at the Nairn Campus in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

Officers swooped on the High Street premises at around 2.40pm on Wednesday, June 18.

It is believed that the recovered drugs haul has a significant street value of £7million.

Police Scotland confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.

Nairn Campus was once part of a 7.65-acre site owned by Fife College, however it closed in 2016 and was sub-divided.

Sergeant J***y Lister said: “This is a very significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the activity of illegal drugs in Scotland.

“Drugs cause misery in our communities.

"This recovery also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country's Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“The public has an important role to play in helping Police Scotland target those responsible for the cultivation, supply and sale of illegal substances.

Anyone with any information or concerns about drugs in their community can call Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Recently, another cannabis farm was found at an empty site in Kirkcaldy's High Street.

An illegal immigrant caught working in a £6million cannabis factory located in a former WH Smith shop was jailed for three years and three months.

Petrit Gjuraj, 24, paid £20,000 to come from Albania to work in a large-scale drugs cultivation plant in an ex retail outlet in High Street, Kirkcaldy.

Thug jailed for robbing woman on train

A man has been jailed for a year for the violent robbery of a woman on a train in Farnborough, following a British Transport Police investigation.

Leon Farry, 26 (01/09/1998), and of Farnborough, pleaded guilty to robbery at Wi******er Crown Court on 14 May and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on 13 June.

The court heard how on 7 June 2024, just before midnight, the victim was sat with her boyfriend on a train approaching Farnborough railway station.
While her boyfriend was asleep, Farry approached the victim and grabbed her handbag by the strap from the table in front of her, attempting to sn**ch it.

The victim grabbed the handle to prevent Farry from taking her bag and, as they struggled over it, Farry struck her in the face.

Eventually Farry was able to pull the bag away and ran onto the platform to escape. The victim's boyfriend, who had woken during the struggle, shouted for someone to stop Farry.

An off duty Metropolitan Police officer and a prison officer heard the shouts and managed to detain Farry on the platform, before calling BTP.

Officers arrived shortly after, and Farry was arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken into custody.

Detective Constable Ewen Roberts said: “Farry acted with staggering levels of arrogance and aggression, lashing out violently at the victim when he wasn’t able to get what he wanted.

“This was an incredibly scary and horrific incident for the victim, so I’m extremely pleased to see Farry put behind bars. There is absolutely no place for violence or robbery on the railway network, and I hope this case serves as an example to those who would seek to profit at the detriment of others on the railway network.”

Anyone who is victim to or witnesses a robbery on the railway network is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40. In an emergency, always dial 999.

Pro-Palestine protesters 'break into Brize Norton and damage two military planes with red paint'

Pro-Palestine protesters have claimed responsibility for breaking into RAF Brize Norton and damaging two military planes in a shocking breach of security.

Palestine Action said two of its activists infiltrated Britain's largest RAF base and sprayed red paint into the engines of two Airbus Voyager aircraft before escaping without being caught.

Shocking footage shared by the group this morning shows protesters storming across the RAF runway in Oxfordshire on electric scooters.

The bodycam footage then shows them spraying red paint into the turbine engines of the air-to-air refuelling tankers which the RAF say are 'vital for enhancing the operational reach and flexibility of Britain's military air power'.

Palestine Action claim to have used repurposed fire extinguishers to spray the paint, while they say they caused further damage with crowbars.

The activists said they sprayed red paint across the runway and left a Palestine flag behind before fleeing the base undetected.

The protest will raise huge questions over security at the RAF base at a time when the world is teetering on the brink with war raging in the Middle East and state threats from both Russia and Iran.

The Ministry of Defence said it 'strongly condemn this vandalism of Royal Air Force assets' and is working closely with police.

It comes just days after Palestine Action activists brazenly filmed themselves breaking in and vandalising the warehouse of a firm that supplies military items to Israel.

Brize Norton is the largest RAF base in the country with approximately 5,800 service members, 300 civilian staff and 1,200 contractors.

Voyagers, described as a 'petrol station in the sky', can carry up to 109 tonnes of fuel and are used to refuel fighter and compatible heavy aircraft.

RAF Brize Norton hold a core fleet of nine voyagers, while five others are available for commercial use but can be recalled for military purposes.

The RAF is reportedly planning to send Voyager aircraft to the Middle East as the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates.

One of the Voyagers, which has a Union Jack on its tail, has previously been used as a VIP aircraft to transport prime ministers and Royal Family members to engagements abroad. But MailOnline understands this was not one of the Voyagers targeted.

Palestine Action claimed they damaged the planes at Brize Norton as it is the base 'where flights leave daily for RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus' - the bse used for military operations in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer confirmed last week that fighter jets were being scrambled to RAF Akrotiri amid threats from Iran and its conflict with Israel escalating.

Iran and Israel have been firing missiles at each other for more than a week now after Tel Aviv launched an unprecedented attack on Tehran, dubbed Operation Rising Lion, striking 100 targets including nuclear and military sites and killing senior military figures.

Sir Keir said in a post on X: 'The act of vandalism committed at RAF Brize Norton is disgraceful.

'Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain and put their lives on the line for us every day.

'It is our responsibility to support those who defend us.'

Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch said: 'The security breach at Brize Norton is deeply concerning.

'This is not lawful protest, it is politically-motivated criminality.

'We must stop tolerating terrorist or extremist groups that seek to undermine our society. The full force of the law must come down on those responsible.'

A Palestine Action spokesperson said: 'Despite publicly condemning the Israeli government, Britain continues to send military cargo, fly spy planes over Gaza and refuel US/Israeli fighter jets.

'Britain isn't just complicit, it's an active participant in the Gaza genocide and war crimes across the Middle East.

'By decommissioning two military planes, Palestine Action have directly intervened in the genocide and prevented crimes against the Palestinian people.'

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: 'We strongly condemn this vandalism of Royal Air Force assets. We are working closely with the police who are investigating.

'Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain. They put their lives on the line for us, and their display of duty, dedication and selfless personal sacrifice are an inspiration to us all. It is our responsibility to support those who defend us.'

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: 'We have received a report of people gaining access to RAF Brize Norton and causing criminal damage.

'An investigation has been launched and we are working with the Ministry of Defence Police and partners at RAF Brize Norton.

'Inquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest those responsible.'

On Saturday, Palestine Action also targeted Permoid Industries Ltd, in Newton Aycliffe, Durham, which is a warehouse that supplies military items to Israel.

According to the group, the incident occurred 'under cover of darkness' and involved the activists destroying equipment, spraying red paint over the floors and walls and smashing glass windows.

One activist with a spray can was filmed daubing 'Free Gaza' on the walls, while another walked into another part of the warehouse carrying a fire extinguisher filled with paint.

Permoid Industries describes itself as an engineering firm that has supplied the Ministry of Defence for more than 80 years, as well as the automotive sector.

Products manufactured by the firm include ammunition containers suitable for belted heavy machine-gun ammunition, and cartridge, mortar, and shell munitions.

In relation to the latest Palestine Action stunt, Lord Walney, the former government adviser on political violence and disruption, said: 'The government must now act to ban Palestine Action after this grotesque breach of military security.

'With Iran's nuclear programme on the brink and Britain facing rising threats from abroad, we shouldn't let these criminal activists act like the Ayatollah's apparatchiks by attacking the country from within.

'Employees at the workplaces they target have been systematically terrorised by Palestine Action for too long - this is the moment for ministers to proscribe the group as terrorists or enact the new sanctions recommended in my review submitted to Downing Street and the Home Office.'

A No 10 spokesman said: 'A full security review is under way at Brize Norton.

'We are reviewing security across the whole defence estate.

'We treat all breaches of security very seriously, and where there is suspected criminal activity, we will take the necessary steps to investigate and prosecute in line with longstanding principle.'

He said the incident had not cost any planned aircraft movements or stopped any operations.

UAE: Dutch footballer Quincy Promes has been extradited to the Netherlands from Dubai. Promes is facing a combined prison sentence of 7.5 years for his involvement in a stabbing incident and co***ne smuggling.

He was sentenced in absentia in the Netherlands to six years for attempting to smuggle over 1350 kg of co***ne through Antwerp's port and another 1.5 years for stabbing his cousin during a family gathering.

His extradition was expedited after he unsuccessfully requested to attend his appeal in Amsterdam without immediate detention. Authorities decided against a commercial flight due to potential security risks and opted for a chartered private jet.

Promes, previously associated with Ajax, Oranje, and Spartak Moscow, will begin serving his sentence upon arrival, though the specific detention facility remains undisclosed.

Spain: In a recent operation by the Guardia Civil in Algeciras, four individuals were apprehended while trafficking 129 kg of hashish using two jet skis. The suspects were intercepted as they approached the Spanish coast from Africa, having traveled across the Strait of Gibraltar.

This tactic, increasingly popular among drug-trafficking networks, involves fast and discreet watercraft. The seized hashish, originating potentially from Morocco or the coast of Ceuta, was packaged in five separate bundles wrapped in candy wrappers to resemble chocolate bars.

Asylum seeker who r***d girl, 15, was not aware of 'cultural' differences, claims his lawyer

An Afghani asylum seeker who entered the UK illegally on a small boat kicked off in court after he was caged for ra**ng a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Sadeq Nikzad, 29, who claimed he’d not been educated on ‘cultural differences’ repeatedly shouted ‘liar’ at judge John Morris, KC, after he was handed a 12-year extended sentence at Livingston High Court.

The judge hurriedly left the bench as the accused, screaming and gesticulating wildly, was handcuffed by security guards before being led to the cells.

Nikzad will serve nine years in custody followed by three years on licence, go on the s*x offenders register and at the end of his sentence, be deported.

The court heard that Nikzad entered the UK illegally two years ago, before subjecting the vunerable teenager to the terrifying oportunistic s*x attack in Falkirk town centre in October 2023.

He was convicted of r**e at the High Court in Edinburgh earlier this year after a jury heard how he approached the girl and asked for her phone number and if she had a boyfriend.

He then made s*xual remarks towards the underage youngster before leading her to the rear of The Courtyard pub where he attacked and r***d her.

The girl said that she froze during the assault while a woman who came across the victim shortly after said she had been ‘in a daze’.

The witness said: ‘She looked stunned. I knew som**hing had gone wrong. She came to me for comfort. She said she kept telling the guy she was only 15.’

Nikzad’s defence counsel Janice Green told an earlier hearing that her client had not been educated about the significant cultural differences between the UK and Afghanistan.

Ms Green also said that the schoolgirl’s evidence about language difficulties between them and the fact she had not told the accused ‘No’ meant the offence was ‘not a typical stranger r**e’.

She added: ‘There are no issues raised by him in relation to fear of persecution and the ultimate result is that he’ll be deported at the conclusion of his sentence.’

Passing sentence, judge Morris told the accused through an interpreter: ‘You’ve been convicted of an extremely serious s*xual offence against a child, and I know your counsel has now explained to you that in those circumstances only a substantial custodial sentence is appropriate.’

As he informed Nikzad that his name would also be placed on the s*x offenders register, he lost his temper and started waving his arms in the air and shouting at his interpreter and the judge.

After sentencing, Katrina Parkes, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, said: ‘This was an appalling, opportunistic attack on a young girl who should have been safe going about her daily business.’

She added: ‘I hope this prosecution sends a clear message to men who commit serious acts of s*xual violence against women and children.’

Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson, from the Forth Valley Public Protection Unit, said: ‘Nikzad’s heinous actions had a profound effect on his young victim and I would like to commend her strength throughout this ordeal.’

Former boss of a City of London foreign exchange company has been ordered to pay back £64 million after large scale fraud convictions

The former director of a finance company, based in the City of London, has been ordered to pay back £64 million or spend 14 more years in prison from a large-scale fraud.

Anthony Constantinou, 41, was found guilty of Fraud by false representations, Fraudulent-trading, and Money laundering at Southwark Crown Court. Constantinou was convicted by a jury in his absence, having absconded during the trial and was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment on 9 June 2023.

The case involved an investment scheme known as the ‘Managed Account’, which was provided mainly by a company referred to as CWM (Capital World Markets or CW Markets), although different varieties of the scheme were run through different corporate entities.

From the latter part of 2013 through to March of 2015, CWM offered investors remarkable returns of around 5% per calendar month (and hence 60% plus per annum) on allegedly risk-free transactions on the foreign exchange (FX) markets, usually for a minimum investment which was £50,000 rising to £100,000 later in the timeframe. Hundreds of such investments were made and the aggregate amount involved was in approximately £70 million. Constantinou, controlled CWM, its related companies, and the key bank accounts used.

‘Investors’ were attracted to the scheme by the promise of these high rewards and were told that CWM could offer such rewards because of special ways of foreign exchange trading that gave the companies access to preferential prices and meant they would always make money on their trades. Unfortunately, these claims were false.

The companies did not invest tens of millions of pounds in the foreign exchange markets. They did not make a fortune and pay their investors out of that. What was done was much more straightforward and fraudulent. Investors returns were paid directly out of the investments, and the rest of the money was spent.

Millions of pounds were lavished on the image of CWM, including sponsorship deals designed to make the company look successful and thereby attract yet more investment, and millions of pounds were paid for the benefit of Constantinou who controlled the funds.

The Judge determined the following:
- Anthony Constantinou - Total criminal benefit: £97,900,873.41 (£69,830,325 + £2,877,000 from investors plus change in value of money). Available amount: £97,900,873 Confiscation Order: £64,000,000 with a Compensation Order for the full amount of the £64,000,000.

Adrian Foster of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “This was a callous scam targeting members of the public. Many people lost their hard-earned money because of Constantinou’s greed and false promises in this fake investment scheme.

“We continue to pursue the proceeds of crime robustly with the City of London Police, where we identify available assets, to disrupt and deter large scale frauds like this case.

“In the last five years, over £478 million has been recovered from CPS obtained Confiscation Orders, ensuring that thousands of convicted criminals cannot profit from their offending. £95 million of that amount has been returned to victims of crime, by way of compensation.”

Life imprisonment for man who killed woman in her own home

A man who broke into a property in Rhyl and killed a 69-year-old woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Dean Mears, 34, broke into the house on Cefndy Road in Rhyl late at night on 24 October 2024.

After unsuccessfully trying to get in through the door, Mears smashed the front window and climbed through it. He left a few minutes later having killed Catherine Flynn, who lived there.

At his trial, Mears admitted killing Catherine Flynn but claimed diminished responsibility. The jury heard evidence that Mears had ketamine, cannabis and co***ne in his system, and had inflicted severe blunt force injuries to Catherine’s head, face and neck which proved fatal.

The medical evidence presented by the Crown Prosecution Service described the injuries as high impact trauma which was consistent with repeated forceful stamps.

The jury also heard that Mears had attempted to dispose of clothing, in multiple locations, but police recovered the items.

Having heard all the evidence in the case, including psychiatric evidence, the jury convicted Mears of murder.

Deanne Mcginty of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Dean Mears inflicted a brutal attack on Catherine Flynn in her own home, a place where she should have been safe.

“He then tried to cover his tracks by attempting to dispose of evidence.

“The jury rejected his claim of diminished responsibility after hearing all the evidence presented by the Crown Prosecution Service.

“Mears’ actions resulted in a tragic loss of life, and that loss is deeply felt by the family and friends of Catherine.

“Our thoughts will remain with them.”

Mears was sentenced on 20 June 2025 to life imprisonment and was ordered to serve a minimum of 27 years and 128 days.

Trio of men guilty of repeatedly ra**ng 12-year-old girl over a three-day period

Three men have been convicted of a series of s*xual offences, including r**e, on a 12-year-old girl over a three-day period.

Kevin Horvath and Ivan Turtak saw her in a supermarket car park in Dover on 11 August 2024 and encouraged her to get in their car. She was then given drugs, including crystal m**h and amphetamine, and was passed between the two men and a third defendant, Ernest Gunar, who repeatedly r***d her and subjected her to s*xual acts.

During that time, whenever they went out in public, she was told that she would be killed if she tried to talk to anyone or tried to run away. She was able to escape from them after she woke up before them on 13 August and was found by police in Dover. Her phone had been taken from her and was later found in Horvath’s car.

Catherine Wear from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “The three defendants took a 12-year-old from the street, took full advantage of her, plying her with drugs and using her for their own horrendous gratification.

“None of us can underestimate the impact this has had on her. When she was first found by police, she was unable to tell them what she had been put through, as she was so scared, and the details only came out gradually after that.

“Thanks to her courage in detailing what happened to her, despite the obvious distress that caused her, these three dangerous men have now been brought to justice for the appalling and callous crimes they committed against her.

“We hope these verdicts bring some small comfort to her as she starts to rebuild her life.”

Chris Brown pleads not guilty to ‘bottle attack’ charge

R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub.

The American musician, 36, is accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19 2023.

His co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, denied the same charge in a plea and trial preparation hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday morning.

Both defendants are further charged with assaulting Mr Diaw occasioning him actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing one count of having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place.

They were not asked to enter pleas to those charges with a further court hearing set for July 11.

Around 20 people sat in the public gallery behind the dock for Friday’s hearing, many of them fans of Brown.

A date for a five to seven-day trial was set for October 26 2026.

Brown had arrived at around 9am to a large group of photographers outside court, and walked in silence to the building’s entrance.

The Go Crazy singer, who was able to continue with his scheduled international tour after he was freed on conditional bail last month, performed in Cardiff on Thursday night.

He had to pay a £5 million security fee to the court as part of the bail agreement, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they breach bail conditions.
