This is an A/C Builder’s Slot Plenum Box. Unlike a traditional metal plenum box, this one is constructed using fire-rated pink plasterboard to improve fire safety. The ductwork connects from above through fire dampers, helping to maintain the fire compartmentation of the building if a fire occurs.
