Saturday June 25, 2022. This weekend is Field Day. Field Day is a nationwide event sponsored by the ARRL in which clubs, groups, and individuals set up stations with portable antennas and generators (to simulate emergency power) and attempt to make contacts all over the United States and beyond. Portsmouth ARC will be at Portsmouth City Park (5 Cpl J Williams Ave) for Field Day. We welcome amateur radio operators and guests who may have an interest in amateur radio. Setup will be this morning with operations commencing at 2:00 pm and running until 2:00 pm Sunday. Come on out and see our setup and even get on the radio! 73, Carl W4CAC

Good afternoon to all,

We have a busy week coming up, so I wanted to send out a reminder about the events coming up.

Tonight (Tuesday 6/22) net at 7:30 PM on 146.850 repeater.

Thursday (6/24) is the General Membership meeting at Churchland Baptist Church at 7:30 pm.

At the meeting we will discuss the needs and preparations for Field Day. We will decide if we are having a cookout and if so who will head that up. Hope to see everyone at the meeting!!

Saturday and Sunday (6/26 & 27) Field Day at Portsmouth City Park.

Good Day to all,

This weekend is ARRL's annual Field Day. Due to newly imposed insurance requirements by the City's risk management office the club was unable to procure Portsmouth City Park for Field Day. Justin, KI4LYP, asked the Fire Department to sponsor us as we are volunteers for the City. However, the city declined the request from the Fire Department as it was not submitted in time.

Justin will be setting up the ARES/CERT trailer at the Troop 233 Scout Hall in Cradock and club members and visitors are welcome.

We were also issued invitations to attend CARS (Chesapeake) Field Day set up at Deep Creek Lock Park as well as Rason's Field Day in Norfolk.

Good Day Everyone,

A reminder that our next General Membership meeting is this Thursday evening (February 28th at 7:30 pm) at Churchland Baptist Church. Jim Thompson, W4THU, will be presenting a program on antennas. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Our March meeting will be a dinner meeting. March 27th at 6:30 pm we will meet at Dennis Steakhouse for a Dutch Treat dinner.

Many of us meet at HomeTown Diner every Saturday morning about 7:00 am for breakfast.

As usual, many of us will meet at Hometown Diner tomorrow (1/26) morning for breakfast (7:00ish).

We will then set up for winter field day at the Ambassador Club (364 Peninsula Ave, Portsmouth) after breakfast.

By the time I get home and hook up to the trailer and get it to the club, I suspect that it will be about 10:30 or so.

We will operate until early evening (depending on participation). We will not operate as a 24 hour event.

I will monitor the 146.85 repeater (both FM or Digital) and the 443.800 repeater (Digital mode). If you need directions or

information just give a call. The UHF repeater will also be connected to the Fusion W4POX room ( #43231).

Good Afternoon PARC members and friends,

A quick note to let everyone know that the 146.700 repeater on top of Maryview will be taken out of service tomorrow (Jan 19th) right after breakfast. This is necessary to complete the testing on the new repeater that will take it's place. When the repeater comes back online it will be a DMR repeater on 146.700.

Once online I will let everyone know. We will also look at setting up a presentation at our meeting to explain and demonstrate the DMR technology.

Good Afternoon to all,

A reminder that the PARC Xmas dinner is tomorrow evening (Wednesday, December 12th) at Dennis Steakhouse in Churchland. Dinner is Dutch Treat and we will begin assembling at 6 pm. We should be ordering by about 6:30 PM.

It has been reported that Mary Howie, KC4FKY, may be there with one of her wonderful Christmas stories.

I know this is short notice, but due to Thanksgiving we have to move our general membership meeting up a week. So we will be meeting this evening at 7:30 pm at Churchland Baptist Church. We hold elections for club officers, so come out and run (or decline) or stay home and get elected:-)

Keep Wednesday December 12th open. We will be holding our Christmas Dinner (Dutch Treat) at Dennis Steakhouse. We will gather at around 6 pm.

Hope to see everyone this evening.

Good Day to all,

This is a reminder that our general membership meeting will be tomorrow evening (Thursday, Oct 25th) at 7:30 pm.

We will be at Churchland Baptist Church. Dennis has an interesting program lined up for us. Scott, a commander in the US Navy, will give a presentation on radio jamming and spectrum management from a government perspective.

Also, if you are interested in a PARC winter hat (same red hat as before but without mesh in the back of the hat) bring $16.50 to the meeting as we are getting ready to place the order.

If you have ever though about holding public office, we are soliciting volunteers to run for club officers. Elections to be held next month. Get your campaign speeches ready and volunteer!

Good Day to all,

Thursday, July 26th, our General Membership meeting will be at Churchland Baptist Church at 7:00 pm.

Please note that the start time is one half hour earlier than normal. The reason for this is that we are holding an auction of some ham radio gear and related items (and we want to finish at a reasonable hour). These items were donated to the Club by the son of a former member who is now a SK. We wanted to give PARC members first crack at the equipment before taking the gear to a hamfest to sell. All proceeds go to the benefit of the Club and the maintenance and upkeep of our repeaters.

If a Club member has gear that they would like to put in the auction, please bring it. Be prepared to provide a minimum accepted price. All we ask is that you make a donation of 10% of the sale price to the Club. I am personally going to have a Kenwood TS-940S, a Canon camera, and several other items. So come on out and bring some unwanted gear and some money!!

Also on Saturday July 28th, as we do every Saturday, we will meet for breakfast at Hometown Diner. We start arriving at about 7:00 am and usually order breakfast (Dutch Treat) at about 7:30 am.

I look forward to seeing everyone. Hopefully you can make the meeting/auction!
