The best advice I’ve heard so far
Yesterday at work, I was caring for an elderly patient who had been through a lot.
He looked tired. Weak. The kind of tired that goes beyond lack of sleep. While helping him with his morning care, I asked what he used to do before retirement. He told me he had worked in a senior role for a computer company.
Curious, I asked him a simple question:
“If you could give young people one piece of advice, what would it be?” Without hesitation, he said:
“Think carefully, but go for it.”
Then he added something else.
“Never be concerned about changing directions.”
He explained that many successful people changed direction several times in life. They didn’t stay on one path forever. They learned, adapted, and kept moving.
I stood there for a moment, thinking about those words.
Here was a man lying in a hospital bed, fighting one of the toughest battles of his life, yet still carrying wisdom that could guide someone else’s journey.
Sometimes we spend so much time looking for answers in books, podcasts, and social media that we forget one thing:
Life experience is a teacher too and sometimes the lesson you need comes from the person you least expect.
I don’t think I’ll forget those words anytime soon.
Think carefully, but go for it.
