Odyssey launch gets closer…update from the CEO on where we are, and the challenges of bringing a cruise ship back to life after 4 years, is fascinating (okay, for some 😉). We’re almost there…

Gosh it’s feeling real…my upcoming home some time in the future, once I figure it out. My favorite things so far:
* living on the ocean whilst traveling the world
* living in a community of likeminded, positive and optimistic, adventurous folk
* super comfy and high speed wifi business centre
* observation lounge with a view of where we’re heading
* tiered aft with eating area for outdoor relaxation overlooking the wake and where we’ve been
* tons of ship groups (kayakers, sailors, boaters, SUPers, golfers, divers etc) within the community to partake in ports around the world
* PICKLEBALL
* DANCING AVAILABLE EVERY NIGHT!
* that pool deck 😍
* all around promenade
* accessible bow for transiting places of particular interest

and the most important that is making it all happen…business owners who listen to and act upon feedback to provide a fantastic product for their customers now and in the future ❤️

This is going to be a most interesting and exciting chapter in mine and my soon to be new friends’ lives🙏🏼

Island of Rhodes, Greece - Celestyal Journey
One of my faves, and would definitely return for a longer visit.

Rhodes Town is really two distinct and very different towns. The Old Town lies within, though apart from, the New Town…sealed like a medieval time capsule behind a double ring of high fortress walls and moat.

There are so many layers of architectural history, with ruins and relics of the Classical, Ottoman and Italian eras entangled in a maze of twisting and turning lanes.

A beautiful port ♥️

Istanbul, Turkey - Celestyal Journey - Wed/Thur 27/28th March, 2024
Afternoon, overnight and the next day here in port. I really do like Istanbul and was here a few months ago.

Took a ship’s excursion the first afternoon. We visited the Sultan Ahmed Square with the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia Mosque and Cisterna Basilica.

The second day I spent mostly on the waterfront and enjoyed coffee and lunch whilst working on my laptop.

Having walked 31,000 steps in August last year, I had already seen a lot of this fascinating city. Definitely recommend a visit.

Tender from the ship to Rhodes, Greece
We have had several tender ports this cruise as we have visited many small islands where cruise ships can’t always dock.

You tend to find the people on excursions get off the ship first, to pick up their coaches and get on their way…

Usually you’ll collect a ticket when you’re ready to go ashore, then when your tender number is called head to the point of disembarkation.

Sometimes the port provide a local tender service, though more often than not the ship uses its lifeboats to ferry passengers from the ship to the dock and back.

It takes a little more thinking about than just being able to get off and on when you feel like it. When you’re ready to get back on the ship, you follow the same process in reverse.

Island of Kos, Greece - Saturday 30th March, 2024
An early tender offer with a couple of friends. We thought about renting a car, though decided against it in the end.

Renting a car is a great way to see more of these islands when only here for a day. Local buses can be good, though very often only run every few hours and you wouldn’t want to get caught at the other side of an island without a way to get back. You can’t always get a taxi either.

Car rental is usually between 35-50 euros per day, so a really good option, and the roads are quiet on the Greek islands.

Had a lovely walk around the town, walked one way to the marina, then around the bay to the beach and waterfront restaurants. Saying kalimera (good morning) to locals sitting, walking, cycling or fishing as I passed by, I always had a very cheery and pleasantly surprised kalimera back. These are very happy people on this island of Kos, and I would definitely return for a longer visit.

I’m loving Greece this early in the season ♥️. -

It’s Monday evening

and I’m just packing for my flight on Wednesday lunchtime from Tampa to Athens for 2 nights before my next cruise

(It’s nice to be leaving because I want to and not because I’m running out of days 😊).

I booked my flight 3 days ago

and my hotel just now.

A lovely hotel overlooking the sea close to the port in Piraeus.

It’s not always possible

though if you can take advantage of last minute deals

you can get more cruises for your money,

and who doesn’t want more cruises for their money? ♥️

This is definitely not for everyone,

though if you’re flexible and willing to book a
‘cruise only’

and sort out your own flights and pre and/or post cruise accommodation

you really can have a nice long trip and see more places.

Of course I can always book it all for you instead and still get you a great price, and equally importantly provide you with the best service 😬
