Recently I presented an amazing programme on LGR with 3 Solicitors, 2 came from Cyprus and one is based here in the UK, who were there to compare the different laws in each country and to give advice.
You have the opportunity as you are all gathered for Christmas to discuss what you want, what you need to do and how you can help your family, when you die, know your wishes.
This is just a tiny fraction of subjects we covered. If you want more advice then send in your question to: [email protected] and it will be passed on to the Solicitor who specialises in the field you require: they will answer for free, should you want to take it further than they will give you a cost BEFORE anything continues. I'll be your back up team should you need me.
What I understood and took away from this programme:
In the UK there is Inheritance Tax, lots of it! In Cyprus there is no such thing as Inheritance Tax.
You need a Will if you have property/land/money in Cyprus completely separate from a Will that you may have in the UK and you may need Probate for both countries.
If you are planning to move to Cyprus or open a business in Cyprus you may be surprised to hear, like I was, that there is NO TAX ON YOUR PROFIT from your business IF you keep your earned money in Cyprus. Foreign businesses may also operate through a BRANCH in Cyprus without creating a separate legal entity: all this can be registered remotely.
Cypriot Citizenship can be granted to persons who have Cypriot origins. In order to be able to apply for citizenship through this legal option, all foreigners are required to provide documents that can prove the existence of a family tie with a Cypriot national.
I could fill 3 pages of what we discussed and questions that we answered that day but I will leave it here. Again any questions just email them to me and I'll pass it on: obviously they will be shut over Christmas but you've waited this long for answers you can wait a few more days.
