On a grubby door in Balham market, south-west London, tucked away in the entrance to some 1890s flats, I spotted this elaborate letterbox. Much more intriguing to the eye than the unadorned door furniture generally available today. Even the L and S of LETTERS are embellished with scrollwork. SR.

This month our new book ‘Doors of London’ is getting the full mahogany treatment. You could say it has arrived! Here it is in the hallowed halls of London clubland, displayed on a mahogany lectern and announced as Book of the Month on a mahogany sign holder. What tribute more fitting for a book filled with Classical entrances than to make it into a high temple of the Classical Revival! Congratulations to our lovely authors Cath Harries Photography and Melanie Backe-Hansen. SR.
