The council says it’s working to improve access for disabled residents, but the family fears time is running out.

Hundreds of residents have backed a BBQ restaurant in South Woodford after Home Office agents uncovered alleged illegal workers.

More than 400 letters in support of the business were submitted to the council.

One letter goes on to say “The hospitality trade has had a difficult time espec¡ally with the effects of Brexit and loss of staff from EU countries, the [2020/21 Covid-19] pandemic with its closures and other restrictions, high energy costs together with the rise in minimum wage and National lnsurance costs.”

Campaigners, developers and Tower Hamlets Council all made their cases at the opening day of the Brick Lane planning inquiry on 14 October.

The inquiry will determine applications to redevelop three sites on and around Brick Lane.

The Save Brick Lane Campaign opposes the plans, saying they "fail to reflect local wants and needs" and dont provide enough housing.

Sir Sadiq Khan has continued to face calls to publicly oppose the construction of a Chinese ‘mega embassy’ in London and lobby the Housing Secretary to reject the application – but the Mayor is standing firm in not getting involved.

Assembly Member Unmesh Desai has spoke up about the situation and said “My concerns are purely on the planning front. China is an important player on the world stage and we should be doing business with them. But this is the wrong embassy in the wrong place – we’ve got to address the issue and we need assurances around any concerns.”

Ministers have been urged to suspend new immigration laws after it emerged that up to 300 Transport for London (TfL) staff could be at risk of removal.

Elly Baker AM at the RMT protest for workers at risk of removal has said: “They’ve spent thousands of pounds to be here, worked hard to gain qualifications, invested everything and now they’re being told they have no place here and to just look at a website for advice as their dreams of a future with TfL are shattered."
