✨ Black History Month 2025 ✨🖤💚💛❤️

For us, Black History Month has always been a vital time to reflect, remember, and celebrate.

It reminds us of the resilience of so many past figures whose courage changed the course of history.

But for a new generation of Black Britons, it is also something more:

➡️ A chance to reshape the story and ensure Black history is not only about the past, but also about the present and future.

Black History Month must remain a time of remembrance.

But it should also be a time of recognition—that the history we make today will shape the world our children inherit.

Today, Black futures matter and so we must:

🌟 Celebrate today’s milestones
🌟 Commit to building a future where the next generation can thrive

Happy Black History Month 2025🖤💚💛❤️

🇹🇹 HISTORIC CITIZENSHIP REFORM IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 🇹🇹

Last week, after hours of debate, the Senate passed the Constitution (Amendment) (Citizenship) Bill, 2025 — a groundbreaking change to the country’s citizenship laws.

✅ What’s new?
• People can now apply for citizenship by descent through their grandparents.
• The restriction that citizenship could only pass through a parent who was not themselves a citizen by descent has been removed.

📜 Previously: Only children of citizens born abroad (second-generation) could claim citizenship by descent. Now, third-generation descendants — those with a Trinidadian grandparent — are included.

This marks a major shift in how the nation defines identity, heritage, and belonging. 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹

✨ The Motherhood Group - a leading support group for Black mothers - has launched the UK’s first-ever report dedicated solely to Black Maternal Mental Health. 🖤

📅 To mark Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK (22–28 Sept 2025), The Motherhood Group has unveiled the Black Maternal Mental Health Report — drawing on insights from 73 projects and the voices of 18,000+ Black mothers.

The findings are powerful — and painful:

⚠️ Black mothers are over 2x more likely to be hospitalised with perinatal mental illness.
⚠️ Many avoid seeking help due to stigma and fear of social services.
⚠️ Racism, stereotyping & microaggressions in NHS maternity care fuel depression, trauma & anxiety.
⚠️ Mothers say they feel “unheard”, “dismissed”, “judged” — leading to distrust in healthcare.
⚠️ With few culturally safe spaces, many turn instead to community, faith & grassroots support.

This landmark report exposes how systemic racism, stigma, and cultural barriers are driving a maternal mental health crisis — and calls for urgent change.

A powerful new story about a London schoolgirl’s journey of living with sickle cell has been brought to life in My Blood, Your Blood — a children’s book commissioned by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT).

Inspired by the real-life experiences of 10-year-old Angel Salami from Sydenham, the book will be gifted to all Brixton primary schools this September during Sickle Cell Awareness Month 2025.

Angel says:
💬 “I feel really good that the book is based on me, as people can learn what it is like to live with sickle cell and maybe be inspired by me. I hope the book makes more people want to give blood donations and learn more about sickle cell from a young age.”

🩸 This book is more than a story — it’s a step towards recognition, awareness, and inspiring future generations to support those living with sickle cell.

Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce - the most decorated female 100m sprinter in history leaves the sport. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🖤💛💚🐐🐐

There was a silver lining as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce bowed out from athletics.

Eighteen years after bursting onto the world stage, Fraser-Pryce signed off with yet another global medal- her 25th global medal and it’ll be her last

Yesterday, in Tokyo on the final day of action at the 2025 World Championships, the five-time 100m champion helped Jamaica secure silver in the women’s 4x100m relay.

“Today’s medal is the icing on the cake,” she said. “My son will be excited. This is a full circle moment – I started my journey in Japan in 2007 as a reserve. I couldn’t have written it better.”

Silver for Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce confirmed her status as one of the greats of her sport.

Fraser-Pryce made the podium in 14 of the last 15 major championships – the only exception being in London in 2017, when she gave birth to her son on the day after the 100m final.
