The School Of Athens by Raphael 🙏
(Vatican museum, Rome📍)

This is easily one of my favourite paintings of all time, a beautiful depiction of the history of Greek thought!

In the middle, we see Plato & Aristotle. Plato points to the sky to showcase his beliefes in ideals and the forms. Aristotle has his down to show his belief in the scientific and of this world observation.

All the people placed on the side of Plato represent those who deal with abstract subjects (Pythagoras, Socrates and Sophocles) and Aristotle has those who deal with the earth (Euclid and some Astronomers)

A beautiful painting!

Three Quotes I love and wish to share with you 🙏

All three have been printed and stuck on my bedroom wall.

- To always remind me of the wisdom of educating the men of this generation so it saves us a great deal in the future.

- To be misunderstood is no problem, if people do not understand my ideas just yet, they will one day.

- many times, I believe I am buying a pleasure and the pleasure is mine when in fact, I have sold myself to it and sacrificed something in me for the sake of pleasure!

A poem I wrote called - A portrait of the passive creative.

Inspiration for this poem is simply the lazy. The gifted who waste away their talents! Tragic. The warmth they contain never reaches those who need it and why? Because, they are ‘chilling’ or ‘will start tomorrow’. We live in the generation of dying artists! Do not be buried before you even die!

New Content This Week! Excited To Get Back On The Mic After A Little Hiatus 🎙️

Start off with the classics! The passion, wisdom and beauty embedded within them are simply unmatched 🙏

Modern day books are what I call “market books”. Designed and published for currency and profit. True literature is that which is created in service of human kind.

Goodluck✍🏼

The Lyceum Podcasts newest poster for 2024! 🏛️‼️

I started this podcast in March 2023 with the goal of sharing beauty in all its forms. Ideas, theories, paintings and poetry. Philosophy as you’ll know is simply the love of wisdom. My first love has always been wisdom itself! Ah, how it purifies hatred and teaches one to love! This is something I’m still baptising my soul in and invite those who wish to join in the contemplation of life and the future.

The goal is not to “deep” talk. This goal is to achieve “elevation” to view society and our own lives not from the bottom but from up above and the views from up here are sublime!

Now 2024. I have great content incoming from February onwards🤝🏼 I haven’t recorded a new episode since October. One must let the ashes settle before they dig. Now I believe it’s time to unearth my thoughts on society, our generation and pave a path for those who feel but can not see yet!

Patience is a virtue! A principle that I have tattooed on my heart. Now patience is the incense that has stopped burning! Now, it’s time to use those ashes and paint an image I hope that is marvelled at!

Have faith and I’ll shall not disappoint 🤝🏼

A poem in dedication to a new year! To look back on the slain 12 months is a victory. A victory since you still are here to read these words. Many obstacles and sufferings tried to rid your throat of life! You held your breath and the lungs grew stronger. Ah, December a month of reflection. The month of reflection! What month embodies reflection more than December? I have no other answer. This time next year I shall remember this moment writing this caption and hope I become a better man in the mean time 🤝🏼

The fruits of contemplation must be shared! Here have a bite!

In the shattered echoes of a tarnished name,
Lies the freedom, unburdened by societal acclaim.
Lost amidst the ruins, a soul finds its flight,
Embracing shadows, away from judgment's blight.

In the absence of laurels, one finds solace deep,
Where secrets dance and broken reputations sleep.
No longer chained to others' watchful eyes,
A spirit soars beneath the boundless skies.

Yet, in this newfound liberty, a truth remains,
The heart still bears the weight of past stains.
For reputation lost may grant a taste of glee,
Yet, in the quiet moments, it's the self one truly sees.

The statement suggests that once a person's reputation is damaged or lost, they might feel liberated from societal expectations and judgments, allowing them to live more freely without the pressure of upholding a certain image. However, it's important to note that reputation can still impact various aspects of life, such as relationships and opportunities. People's perceptions and trust are influenced by reputation, so while one might feel liberated, the consequences of a damaged reputation can be complex and multifaceted.

Plato and Aristotle🤝🏼

The intellectual contrasts between Plato and Aristotle are illustrated in Raphael's "The School of Athens." Plato and Aristotle are shown in the painting conversing in the middle, surrounded by other classical thinkers.

Plato is shown pointing upward on the left, signifying his conviction that there is a perfect world of Forms. His concentration on philosophical and abstract knowledge is indicated by this gesture. His attention is directed towards the transcendental realm of flawless and perfection, which he believed to be the only genuine reality, as shown by the upward motion. He wears red and purple, red symbolising fire and purple the great aether in the stars illustrating he is a man of transcendent/heaven thinking🖌️ Raphael used Leonardo Da Vinci as a model for Plato.

Aristotle is seen on the right, his hand outstretched, signifying his emphasis on the real world and the value of direct experience and observation. He held that sensory perception is the source of knowledge. Aristotle wears blue and green signalling land and sea showing he believes in scientific thinking and of this world rationality instead of mere abstract ideas!

Raphael’s composition captures the essence of the philosophical debate between idealism (Plato) and empiricism (Aristotle). The harmonious coexistence of various philosophers in the painting reflects the Renaissance spirit of embracing diverse knowledge and ideas.

Inspired by this page I read by Friedrich Nietzsche who speaks about how we glorify our own suffering and limitations. Always pretending we could of been something else if it was not for XYZ. We must find and become our true vocations and not reduce it to fantasy! Get a grip and exceed!

I often wish to be dedicated to my craft but so many times does the emotions and imagination weaponise against me! Stalling my action, ah, I wish to achieve fortune and glory but I can indeed be my own enemy!

But like the poem says the grass that breaks the concrete over time shall be my inspiration! Youth shall turn from external into internal!
