When founding partner Simon Law moved house recently we unearthed this v rare gem - taking us right back to the birth of Plankton in 1978. The test pressing of our first ever release - “Mirrored Dreams” album by Sea Stone - with a limited run of 1,000 copies it is now very much a collectors item in the vinyl collecting world!

Plankton partners Keith and Simon met up at Simon’s house yesterday as Keith was collecting some Plankton Records related stock, master tapes and paperwork ahead of Simon’s house move and Simon had unearthed these wonderful memories too. Keith took some pics as we thought they might spark a few memories with those friends who frequented the Fringe in the late 80s/early 90s...
These are the signs that used to hang on the Musician’s Advice tent that we ran every year and where the fringe artists would sell their music and merchandise, learn about PRS and get advice on copyright and recording, as well as pick up much needed spares (strings, batteries, place, drumsticks etc) and even have the odd instrument/equipment repair done on site too.
Good times! (Wiping nostalgic tears from the corner of our eyes)

Our old friend and former Plankton Records artist, reggae/World music artist Ben Okafor has just released a new single Worldwide on all digital music sites/platforms Worldwide.
He describes this new song as "one of the most significant works of my career. I’m calling on communities and governments to pull back from the abyss and return to the best of the humanitarian values of ‘brotherhood and sisterhood’ enshrined in human rights and international law. When we adhere to and advance these values, we are all enhanced, we are all made safer, and we are all made more secure. But when we deny, defer or defy these values, we are all weakened and made more vulnerable. In God’s name, let’s do the right thing. Free Palestine. Shalom-Salaam!”

Some pics from the “Simon at Seventy” celebration gig which took place last Saturday. It was a great evening packed with music, protest, communication, emotion, celebration and friendships. Great to catch up with some old friends of Plankton and Simon (Apologises from Keith for the quality of some of the photos!)

So, last weekend we celebrated our founder SIMON LAW's 70th Birthday with the "Simon at Seventy" gig/party and we posted some pics earlier in the week.
The award for most travelled guest goes to our old friend - poet extraordinaire and Everton fan (never mind) Mr Paul Cookson - who travelled down the A1 from Retford (Nottinghamshire). Not only that but he wrote a poem for his old friend especially for the occasion.
And here he is performing it on the night...

Our Story

Since 1978 we have been one of the UK’s few independent record labels that releases music by artists who are Christians and while we are still very small (hence the name!) we are probably now one of, if not the, oldest surviving label of this kind - and we’ve just celebrated our 40th anniversary! In that time we have released over 100 titles (made up of albums, EPs and singles) and our aim have been and always will be to offer a platform to artists whose music has something to say about the world we live in and the human condition. Justice, truth, love, faith, God, war, peace, equality and freedom are among the subjects covered in the works of our artists, regardless of their musical genre. Our releases feature rock, reggae, world, african, celtic, gospel, soul, metal, progressive and even satirical music to stir and stimulate the heart, mind and soul, as well as entertain. Most of our releases releases can now also be found on all of the major digital music download and streaming sites WORLDWIDE, so whether you prefer to download or stream your music or to own a ‘physical product’ then you can listen to our releases.
