We are happy to announce that Shira Wolfe’s bilingual poetry collection Jugoslovenska Kinoteka is now also available for purchase all throughout the UK 🤩

📖 In Jugoslovenska Kinoteka, Shira Wolfe’s cinematic poetry reads like scenes from a movie, describing a period of her life spent in Belgrade and traversing the Balkans – from Sarajevo to the Bay of Kotor, from Stara Planina to Mount Avala. Most of all, it is an ode to the Belgrade of her past and the relationships she formed there, constellating around that city and continuously reappearing elsewhere in encounters fuelled by synchronicity. In her world, cities become smells; statues can be read; and the boundaries between art and life, between self and other, are always blurred.

✍🏻 SHIRA WOLFE
is a Dutch-American poet, writer and translator, whose work is situated within a multilingual space. She teaches poetry at an asylum seekers centre in the Netherlands, and she has previously worked extensively with refugee communities in Belgrade, Serbia. She is a translator and editor for the publication series Archival Textures, and has written articles about the art world for various publications, includingArtland Magazine and Metropolis M. Jugoslovenska Kinoteka is her debut collection of poetry.

Celebrating Women in Translation Month (2/3) 🎈🎊Although, of course, we don’t need a special month to celebrate our amazing female authors and their (translated) fiction and poetry, we will be highlighting three titles this week and next! 📚

💖 THE RIVER HAS NO COLOUR - Jessica Taggart Rose () translated by Claire Durand-Gasselin ()

The River Seine is an unlikely goddess, keeper of secrets and source of hope in Jessica Taggart Rose’s debut pamphlet collection. Plunging us into the artery that runs through the heart of Paris, Rose explores the relationships between the human and non-human, between past and present, between water and sky.

The poems question what it means to inhabit an ecosystem, especially during environmental and social crises. Transparent, musical and immersive, this book is a bilingual collaboration, presenting Jessica’s original poetry in English, alongside the French translation from Claire Durand-Gasselin.

✍🏻 JESSICA TAGGART ROSE
is a writer and editor fascinated by human nature, the nature of time and our interactions with the natural world. She’s had poems published in the Letters to the Earth, Storm Chasers and New Contexts anthologies, Confluence Magazine, Full House and Three Drops from a Cauldron. A founding member of Poets for the Planet, she lives in Margate where she helps to run the Margate Bookie lit fest and Margate Stanza. (Photo: Luke Eastop)

✍🏻 CLAIRE DURAND-GASSELIN
is a translator, bilingual poet and visual artist. She lived in the US from 2014 to 2022, and now resides in Montreuil, France. She has been the co-founder and artistic director of Mad Gleam Press, and now works as a literary translator, specializing in poetry. She’s also an editor and active member of Paris Lit Up. Her work explores memory, rituals, and resonance with places.

New out, we have…

A LETTER IN THE NIGHT by Chaja P***k (translated by Astrid Alben ) – written in the wake of October 7 and now in its tenth printing in her native Netherlands, this essay seeks to bridge the gap and show the humanity on both sides of this seemingly intractable conflict.

✍🏻 Chaja P***k (1941)
is a writer and visual artist. As the child of a victim and a survivor of Auschwitz, her life has been largely determined by what was done to her parents. She attended the Rietveld Academy and made her debut in literature in 1989. She wrote novels, stories and poetry. A number of her books were nominated for the Libris Literature Prize and were translated into English, Danish and Italian.
