Armed Forces Day 2025. A time to reflect on those who put their lives on the line to protect our country and way of life. In these times, freedom cannot be taken for taken for granted.
The world is the least stable it’s been since the 1930s. Our way of life, our freedom as we’ve come to know it- our freedom of speech, our values & culture is under attack. Those that serve in the British Armed Forces today, put their lives and families on hold, so that we can enjoy life as we now know it.
For me, it’s always been a privilege to have served, and I’m always on call to fight for our country, my family and what’s right.

Another critically endangered Great White Shark has been killed in the Mediterranean. We’ve been studying and making a film about them for the last 5 years. There are so few left. However, North African fisheries Kill them when they find them. We’ve recorded more than 30 Great Whites killed in the last year. This is an extinction level event. We are trying to stop it. We need support. 🦈 🦈 🦈

I’m excited to be working back on a big African conversation Rewilding project 🦏 and film. It’s definitely more satisfying that conflict films, although those are second nature to me. That said the rhino poaching I’ve recently experienced in Kruger national park in South Africa is catastrophic, and human lives are being lost as well. One of the stories that I encountered, which I’d never considered before, is how the deaths of poachers affects families and children. As much as we all despise poachers, and support robust measures to protect wildlife, there we now many orphaned children across the border in Mozambique. Father’s, exploited by illegal wildlife trade networks, try to earn a living to support their family from poaching, because there are no other jobs. When a poacher is killed, it leaves children and families destitute. Like the narcotics industry, it’s a brutal cycle of exploitation and death. We’ll be shining a light on this through the aperture 🎥

Baboon family eating at sunset and a lioness at sunrise. South Africa always delivers. A very intense few weeks in SA, covering 2,500km in crap hire cars, dodging hundreds of potholes & carjackers, yet meeting amazing people, dedicated to conservation. I was lucky to be armed with the Sony A1 courtesy of 🙌

Catching up with Zulu Chief Sbu Jiyani and Grant Fowlds and reminiscing about the beginnings of back in 2018, when we first met. The project has come along way since then, despite huge challenges. The next phase is the re-introduction of 🦏 which we looking forward to capturing on film for the Loziba story 🐘 🎥
Photos 2/3 from 2018 with .steyn & Beyers Coetzee.

My first time back in over 5 years to Loads of progress has been made towards protecting 30,000 hectares of wilderness. The vision that our late friend Beyers Coetzee had, is slowly becoming a reality and is already providing over a 100 community jobs. The reserve is finally protecting the infamous Mwana elephants, which ultimately took his life, whilst he was out in the bush protecting them🐘 It’s been great catching up with .fowlds and the new members of the Loziba team, alongside fellow filmmaker & bootneck Marty Stalker. The next phase is one of the most exciting, the re-introduction of 🦏…..

An incredible day with the Care For Wild Team, working with orphaned black and white rhinos 🦏 This little black rhino Riri, was orphaned last year, and is just learning to browse in the bushveld. We followed her out for her morning walk into the bush as she sampled the bushes and grass. Care For wild looks after orphaned rhinos, whose mothers have been killed by poachers, mainly in the Kruger National Park. They nurture the baby rhinos, rehabilitate them with other rhinos, and eventually when they’re ready, release them back into safe wild locations. 2025 has already started badly for poaching, with more than 35 killed in the first few months. You can find out more about their work and support their work.

🐘 Wildlife at Mabalingwe nature reserve, a large area of Transvaal bushveld, north of Johannesburg. Mabalingwe means “Spots of the leopard.” - I did not spot any leopards, let alone it’s spots, but did see a magnificent heard of African elephants, lions, rhinos and this southern (yellow) hornbill in photo 2. Off to the Kruger next to investigate the extent of rhino poaching. I hear it’s far worse than has been reported. More to follow on this….
