Join us at the Public Knowledge Books booth ‘s Glue Book Fair this Sunday for a signing with Claire Barrow of her new zine, along with a selection of her other publications.

Sunday 14th September
4pm - 7pm
ICA London

Real Estate Portfolio brings together drawings created in one sitting in Spring 2025 with Claire’s wrong hand - her right hand. Fragments of different places she has visited, utopian visions of barns, houses, shacks and estates, neighbouring buildings and their inhabitants are collected together in a Ruscha-influenced concertina zine. Seemingly all owned by one conglomerate, the firm displays its employees on the front cover, faces pixellated in shame.

Claire Barrow is a London-based interdisciplinary visual artist (b. Stockton-on-Tees). Over the past 15 years she has created work encompassing fashion, painting, sculpture, installation, drawing and image-making. Her work focuses primarily on the exploration of past experiences and embraces intuition, shifting between the familiar, the ambiguous, and the phantasmagoric.
She uses a variety of mediums to create parallel realms, often including characters and situations that reflect experiences from her own life and worlds beyond. Visions emerge through semi-random markings; time loosens and becomes floppy; proportions slide out of scale. Her dreamlike states often bridge placid utopian fantasy and dystopian chaos, the viewer swimming in social and autobiographical narratives.
Solo exhibitions include Victim of Cosmetics at Fieldworks, Pipe at Dinner Party Gallery, The Birth of Another Individual at The New St Ives School, and Pig Latin Library at Soft Opening in Piccadilly Circus tube station, as well as group exhibitions in the UK and internationally.
She has also collaborated with bladee, Ashley Williams, and Heaven by Marc Jacobs, among others. Her work has been featured in Euphoria (HBO), Dazed, British Vogue, The Face, Elephant, Arena Homme+, Buffalo Zine, and more.

Join us at the Public Knowledge Books booth ‘s Glue Book Fair for a signing with Gareth McConnell of his new book Window.

Between 2011 and 2022, Gareth MConnell created an unusual series of images of London. Photographed from within his own home, by pointing a camera out of a second-storey window, they capture people, relationships, situations in the course of everyday life. People walk, hold hands, huddle, gesture and fight. The city pulses. Directly across the road from McConnell’s window, in a supermarket car park the spectacle of ordinary life unfolds in a series of striking tableaus. Along the busy street, wheels turn, carrying people to their destinations via pram, bicycle, car and bus. Beneath the window the graphic ‘X’ of a woman, her arms flung out in protest, stands out against the regular pattern of paving slabs. On a different day, the tracks of feet, trollies and bikes mark out lines of desire across the snowy ground. Elsewhere, the camera plays with light to inspire mystical effects. In long exposure pictures, the moon’s milky glow is mirrored in the pale spillages of streetlamps and headlights. The sun anoints a lone figure standing alongside her shopping and transforms a nearby pillar into a transcendent shaft of light. Or it shines starkly overhead bringing out the sheen in the coat of a mounted police horse. These varied glimpses, all observed from the same vantage point, show the city in a state of constant change and renewal.

We do love shop visitors. Especially those from bookshops. This week we were lucky enough to receive a visit from Kaitlyn of Well Read in Lisbon.
Kaitlyn left the music industry behind to peruse her interest in books and set up a shop geared towards the ‘critically curious’.
Thank you Kaitlyn, safe travels.

Magnus and colleagues are ready to welcome you to the extremely charming

You will not find an inch of bare bookshelf in this West London gem. Those who love discovery can spend hours browsing the titles on art, architecture, textiles, fashion, design (not to mention the masses of fiction and non fiction paperbacks.)
