As the Liberal Democrats wrapped up their Autumn conference yesterday, the challenge for Ed Davey and his party was clear: getting the attention of the press and public in a noisy political landscape.

Pre-conference: A YouGov poll found that only 8% of Britons see Davey as a Prime Minister in waiting, with just 17% believing a Lib Dem government would do a good job running the country.

During the conference: The Lib Dems attracted less UK press coverage than Reform UK. For a party positioning itself as the progressive alternative, this lack of share-of-voice is as much a comms challenge as it is a political one.

Post-conference: Davey’s rallying cry summed up the challenge his party faces – ‘It comes down to us or Nigel Farage. Two visions for the future that couldn’t be more different’.

In a year where the fight for political attention is more fragmented than ever, and Trump-esque campaigning is increasingly seeping into UK politics, how will the Liberal Democrats fare against Farage & co.?
