Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) The home of Film & Televison Sound Professionals We are an organisation of Film and Television Sound Technicians based in the U.K.

We currently have about 500 highly experienced members from the Industry and there is a Directory of Members with contact details, covering Boom Operators, Production Sound Mixers, Sound Designers, Supervising Sound Editors, Sound Editors, Re-recording Mixers, Post Production Supervisors, Music Mixers, Music Editors, Sound Assistants, Foley Artists, and many other Sound Technician grades within th

ese pages. We also have the support of a number of Sustaining Members from the manufacturing and associated commercial organisations to the Film and Television Industry worldwide. We organise regular meetings on all areas of sound for Film and Television production and arrange demonstrations of new equipment and technology. A quarterly Journal is published and circulated to all members, and archived samples of these are available on our website - www.amps.net. We are constituted to raise the standards and improve the professionalism of our craft and all active members of the Industry are encouraged to join us. The Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) is calling for greater recognition of the essential role of two Boom Operators on productions working to the UK’s ten-hour continuous day model.

With the trend towards ever-longer takes and increasingly complex shooting setups, employing dual Boom Operators (1st AS) is not only vital for protecting crew health and wellbeing but also for maintaining the highest standard of on-set sound. This practice reduces reliance on ADR, supports multi-camera shoots, and ensures productions meet established safety guidance.

AMPS Chair George Foulgham said, “AMPS promotes ‘Excellence in Sound’ through its annual awards and actively advocates for best practices and current safety standards to all its members. Safety Bulletin #45 is a benchmark for the industry. AMPS recommends that all film productions follow these guidelines during pre-production and filming, regardless of setting.”

To kick off awards season, AMPS members were invited to a special screening of Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s amazing and hard hitting film ‘WARFARE’ at Dolby’s Soho base on Monday night.

This was followed by a Q&A about the incredible immersive soundtrack with Production Sound Mixer Mitch Low AMPS, Supervising Sound Editors Glenn Freemantle and Ben Barker, and Re-Recording Mixers Richard Spooner and Howard Bargroff AMPS.
