Police Helicopter Officer Lands in Field to Help Arrest Teen Biker After Dramatic Chase

Off-duty fi****ms cop and airborne crew team up to halt dangerous motorcycle pursuit across Cramlington and Blyth

A teenager has been arrested after a dramatic motorcycle pursuit across Northumberland ended with a helicopter officer landing in a field to help bring him down.

The 17-year-old, accused of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police, was pulled from a Yamaha bike by an off-duty fi****ms officer who happened to be walking his dog near the Keel Row Pub in Seaton Delaval.

The chase began around 3.35pm on Monday 7 July after officers from Northumbria Police’s Motorcycle Unit spotted the bike in Cramlington with no registration plates and a passenger not wearing a helmet.

When instructed to stop, the rider sped off, triggering a high-speed pursuit that lasted around 20 minutes. A helicopter crew from NPAS Newcastle quickly joined the chase from the air.

The pillion passenger jumped off the bike near Laverock Hall and was found in possession of a lock knife. He was arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon and has since been referred to youth services.

But the rider continued to flee on two wheels through the streets of Cramlington and Blyth until he was intercepted by the off-duty officer. Moments later, a Tactical Flight Officer from the helicopter crew leapt from the aircraft as it landed in a nearby field to assist with the arrest.

The teenager, now linked to another police evasion incident on 3 July, was arrested at the scene. The motorcycle was seized.

He has since been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of dangerous driving and two counts of failing to stop for police. He has been released on bail and is due to appear before magistrates in North Tyneside later this month.

Inspector Phil Patterson of Northumbria Police praised the response, saying: “This was a cracking job, with two males arrested thanks to the sheer determination of officers both on and off duty.”

T/Inspector Phil Emmerson from NPAS added: “This is yet another demonstration of how our air crews will do all they can to ensure suspects are apprehended and our police colleagues on the ground are fully supported.”

Former Teaching Assistant Jailed for S*x Offences Against Teenage Girl

A former teaching assistant has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison after admitting to non-recent s*xual offences against a teenage girl.

Jonathan Bath, 42, of Parliament Close, Skegness, was convicted of five offences at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday 7 July. These include two counts of engaging in penetrative sxual activity with a girl aged 13-15, two counts of non-penetrative sxual activity with a girl aged 13-15, and one count of inciting a girl aged 13-15 to engage in s*xual activity.

The horrific abuse came to light in 2024 when the victim, now an adult woman, bravely approached the police. She reported the abuse she suffered at Bath's hands while she was a pupil at a school between 2005 and 2007. The name of the school and the victim's exact age cannot be revealed to protect their anonymity.

Bath has been banned from working with children and vulnerable adults. He will also be subject to a 10-year sxual harm prevention order and will remain on the sx offender’s register indefinitely.

Detective Constable Lisa Willard condemned Bath's actions and praised the survivor's immense courage. She stated, "This sentencing marks the end of a long and painful journey for the survivor, who has shown immense courage in coming forward and speaking out. The man who abused them was in a position of trust—as a teaching assistant, he had a duty to protect and nurture the children in his care. Instead, he exploited that authority in the most appalling way."

DC Willard added, "This case is a stark reminder that abuse of power, especially in environments where children should feel safe, will never be tolerated. Most importantly, justice has finally been served for the victim. I hope this outcome brings them some measure of closure and reinforces the message that it is never too late to speak out. We will always listen, and we will always act." She also thanked the Lincolnshire Police team for their "professionalism and dedication."

Stolen 100-Year-Old Rolls-Royce Recovered in Essex Yard After Three-Day Police Hunt

Pride and joy of 82-year-old enthusiast found under tarp in Tilbury after vanishing from hotel car park

A century-old Rolls-Royce valued at over £300,000 has been found by Essex Police, just days after it was stolen from a car park in Orsett.

The Silver Ghost, described by its owner as “irreplaceable”, was discovered in an outbuilding in Tilbury, hidden under a tarpaulin and still sitting on the trailer it was taken with.

The vehicle, which vanished in the early hours of Thursday 26 June, was en route to Helsinki for a European tour when it was stolen. Its owner, 82-year-old Brian Fitton from Cheshire, had been staying at a local hotel overnight and awoke to find his prized possession missing.

“I was shocked to find my beautiful car gone,” Mr Fitton said. “I’ve travelled the world in that vehicle for the past 25 years. The support I’ve had from the public has been unbelievable.”

Following a tip-off that the stolen car might be in the Tilbury area, Essex Police’s Thurrock Neighbourhood Policing Team secured a warrant and launched a rapid investigation. Within three days of the report, officers located the vintage Rolls-Royce, complete with its original features and distinctive silver bodywork.

Sergeant Curtis Price, who led the recovery, said: “Thanks to our swift response, we were able to locate and recover the stolen vehicle safely. It’s always a positive outcome when we can return property to its rightful owner and prevent further criminal use.”

Thurrock District Commander Tony Atkin added: “We know how distressing it is to have your car stolen, whether it’s a vintage model, a work van or a family vehicle. Vehicle theft is often the start of more serious crimes. Every car we recover helps disrupt wider criminal networks.”

The car, a 1920s Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, is considered a rare gem among collectors. Police confirmed that both the trailer and the vehicle were intact.

Essex Police are continuing to investigate and have appealed for anyone with information or footage relating to the theft to come forward.

Manhunt Launched for Father and Son Over Brutal Loughborough Attack

Police are appealing for the public’s help to find a father and son wanted in connection with a serious assault in Loughborough where a man was repeatedly hit with metal poles.

Dominic Sas, 45, and his son, Iulian-Romica Dumbra, 19, are being sought after failing to answer bail for grievous bodily harm with intent. The pair were initially arrested following an incident on Leicester Road on Tuesday 30 July last year.

During the attack, a man in his 40s was left with multiple broken bones after being assaulted with metal poles. Sas and Dumbra were released on police bail while investigations continued, but they failed to report for charging in December last year.

Despite extensive enquiries to locate them, officers have exhausted all leads and are now urging the public to come forward with any information.

If you know where Dominic Sas or Iulian-Romica Dumbra are, or have information that could help police find them, please report it online at www.leics.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting crime reference number 24*452879. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously and for free on 0800 555 111.

Outrage as UK Court Halts Paedophile's Extradition Over 'Human Rights' Fears

A convicted Latvian paedophile's extradition from the UK has been put on hold after a judge demanded assurances his human rights would not be breached in a Latvian prison.

The decision has sparked outrage among those who believe the rights of victims being sidelined in favour of protecting the wellbeing of a convicted offender already found guilty of abusing a child.

Kaspars Botters, 39, who abused a girl under 16 on five occasions between 2009 and 2014, was arrested in Nottingham after Latvian authorities issued a conviction warrant. However, his defence team successfully argued that sending him back could put him at "high risk" of intimidation and extortion from other inmates.

Shyan MacTavish, defending, told the court, "Mr Botters faces potential violence by fellow prisoners in Latvia. It is an issue that permeates throughout the prison system there." She claimed Latvia has a "prison hierarchy which seems to be deeply embedded in every aspect of prison life," with inmates forced into one of three "castes." According to MacTavish, Botters would be placed in the lowest caste, with a "lack of protection for him." She further alleged that Latvian authorities appear to be "facilitating this system."

The defence argued that extraditing Botters could breach his Article 3 rights under the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees protection from "torture, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."

Jonathan Swain, representing the Latvian authorities, countered that the Baltic government has outlined measures to protect Botters, including video surveillance, radio checks, and supervision in prisons. He also stated that "some years ago there was limited threats made to Mr Botters," but "there is no evidence of any threats made against him since then." Swain added that if a sufficient threat emerged, Botters would be moved to solitary confinement.

District Judge John Zani acknowledged Botters' "unsavoury past" but stated he needed more time to consider the law and the presented information. He has adjourned his final decision until 29 July, leaving many to question why the human rights of a convicted child abuser are taking precedence.

Man Jailed Two Decades After Abusing Teenage Girl

A man has been sent to prison for 14 years for r*ping and abusing a teenage girl in the early 2000s, following a detailed investigation by Greater Manchester Police.

Suaiel Riaz Haider, 43, of Mosley Avenue, Bury, was sentenced on 7 July 2025 for two counts of rpe of a girl under 16 and four counts of indecent assault. He must also adhere to a lifelong sxual harm protection order and has been added to the s*x offender’s register for life.

Haider was found guilty by a jury on 13 June 2025 after a two-week trial at Manchester Crown Court. The investigation began in 2021 when the survivor bravely came forward to the police, detailing offences that occurred as far back as 25 years ago.

Detectives from Bury’s Complex Safeguarding Team worked closely with the victim to gather evidence. She met Haider in 2000 when she was 15 and he was 19. He groomed her with lifts from school, food, ci******es, and alcohol, and their relationship soon became sxual. He then began to make derogatory comments, leading to the sxual offences.

Despite pleading not guilty and denying all charges throughout the trial, the jury unanimously found him guilty.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Beale, from the Bury Complex Safeguarding Team, praised the survivor's bravery. She said, "It was incredibly brave of her to speak about the abuse, and this played a crucial role in ensuring Haider couldn’t get away with his crimes any longer and faced justice." She hopes the conclusion of this "long and complicated investigation" brings the survivor some closure.

DS Beale added, "We are on an upward improvement journey in how we tackle CSE – whether it be the abuse of children yesterday or today. I hope this case provides confidence to anyone who has experienced child abuse that if they come forward, they will be listened to, and we will do everything we can to secure justice."
