Against a backdrop of homelessness pushing towns and cities towards financial oblivion, council bosses are keen to get their hands on homes. In their desperation, they are turning to homes they were forced to sell just a few years previously under Right to Buy.

Big Issue can reveal councils are losing millions on these Yo-yo Homes – while a select number of ex-tenants get rich by selling their homes back to the council.

Our findings have prompted calls for reform, and led to warnings the Right to Buy system isn’t fit for purpose.

So what are Yo-yo Homes, why are they happening, what are experts saying about them, and what can be done? We’ve broken it down for you. 👇

Growing food, skills and community 🌱

Simon sold The Big Issue in Norwich for 15 years. Today, he’s part of our Big Grow project, transforming a local church garden into an edible landscape.

At St George Church in Colgate, local volunteers, church members and the homeless community meet each week to plant, harvest and share, proving that food can be a powerful tool for connection and wellbeing.

Following its success, Big Grow is now expanding to St Giles Church and New Routes charity shop, bringing more people together to grow food, and grow change.

Where should we g(r)o(w) next? 👩‍🌾

Many faith-based crisis pregnancy centres are believed to offer an 'ethical' service, but there are some which have been found to be 'misleading' women.
