Five years ago today, Dean Blunt’s Black Metal 2 (finally) materialised with a release via Rough Trade Records. For an artist defined by a mist-filled approach to music, the arrival of a direct sequel to his 2014 masterpiece felt entirely inconceivable until the moment it dropped, despite being teased over the course of many years.

Clocking in at 23 minutes, around half the length of its predecessor, the record stands as some of the most approachable yet deeply detached music of his career. Visually, the album artwork pays homage to the original Black Metal sleeve while adding a graphic green “2” that nods to the iconography of Dr. Dre’s 2001. Sonically, otherworldly atmospheres are built by cutting beautiful, melancholic string scores with cold-blooded spoken word and the familiar tones of frequent collaborator Joanne Robertson.

Tracks like ‘MUGU’, a West African slang term for a scam victim, juxtapose his commanding baritone against gently plucked guitars to unpack narratives of modern sins. On opener ‘VIGIL’, the album confronts the visceral trauma of gun violence with cryptic, devastating testimony, while ‘DASH SNOW’ acts as a direct nod to the late photographer whose work famously archived the nocturnal subcultures, substance abuse, and artistic vanity that Blunt frequently references.

The record ultimately concludes on a heavy wave of pessimism with ‘THE ROT’, a meditative final reminder that all good things inevitably fade away.

Half a decade later, we think Black Metal 2 remains one of Blunt’s most mystical albums.

Robert Smith has officially confirmed that not only is The Cure’s () next album ready, their next two records are finished with a third one in the works.

Speaking after the Primavera Sound () duet with Olivia Rodrigo () and their headline set over the weekend, the frontman revealed that they recorded three albums’ worth of material during recent studio sessions. Interestingly, he admitted the third project marks a radical stylistic shift that he describes as his own distinct vision of “Cure Pop.” Something all the more upbeat than their recent material.

For a young Anthony Bourdain listening to The Stooges in his dorm room, Iggy Pop’s () music was the anti-social masterpiece of DIY aggression he needed, just as his friends started turning their backs on Jimi Hendrix and embracing the easy-going, early ‘70s pop-rock of acts like Steely Dan.

Decades later, that same fandom culminated in an episode of Bourdain’s Parts Unknown series in Miami. Despite a career hanging out with celebrities, the chef later admitted in a blog post, “I’ve never been more intimidated, more anxious, more star-struck than when I met Iggy Pop.”

It took him three days to build up the courage and introduce himself to the punk pioneer, who he met by chance on a family holiday in the Caribbean. When they finally sat down for the show, the two noncomformist icons spent the afternoon eating healthy: a glass of white wine being the only nod to their notoriously hedonistic pasts.

Over the course of their conversation, they bonded over aging, mortality and their transition into calmer and more disciplined lives. To Bourdain, Iggy was the ultimate template for how a rockstar should live, and admired how he’d traded on-stage self-destruction for a much quieter life.

Getting major FOMO from watching the footage of The Cure () at Primavera Sound ().

Kicking off their highly anticipated 2026 tour, Robert Smith and Co delivered a two-and-a-half-hour setlist packed with classic gothic punk hits and rarities. This performance marked the band’s first live show since 2024 and their first stage appearance since releasing the critically acclaimed album Songs of a Lost World.
Following a turbulent start to the weekend, including last-minute Primavera Sound lineup cancellations from Massive Attack (), Mac DeMarco, Doja Cat () and Alex G () alongside crowd organisation complaints, the legendary British band look to have redeemed the festival.

Clips of the performance have taken over the internet as the setlist moved through timeless tracks like ‘A Forest’, ‘Just Like Heaven’, ‘Lullaby’, and ‘Boys Don’t Cry’.

Yeah, now we’re jealous.

They don’t make NIKE football ads like this anymore…

20 years ago, the iconic NIKE Joga Bonito campaign inspired a whole movement and the football purist in us wants this era back again. Leading up to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the sportswear brand published a series of adverts narrated by Manchester United legend Eric Cantona, documenting the most skillful and stylistically unique players of the time.

From Thierry Henry ruling the concrete pitches of north London to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo going head to head in an incomprehensible skill showdown, these vintage football ads reminded us that even at the highest level, the beautiful game could be about self-expression, not just tactics.

Popularised by Pelé, Joga Bonito translates to ‘Play Beautifully’ in Portuguese, and nobody embodied this notion quite like the Brazil team. The flair and eternal joy of Ronaldinho perhaps embodied the phrase best. In one of the best adverts, he finds himself with Ronaldo, Robinho and the rest of the national team doing keepy uppies in AirMax 95s and T90s in the locker room before a match.

As the 2026 World Cup shapes up to be the most expensive ever for fans, and the modern game is stuck in its rigid ways, where set-pieces and long throw-ins are the fashion, football’s Joga Bonito era is a welcome bit of nostalgia.

At the ripe old age of 83, Paul McCartney () has released his 27th solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, and it’s set to fly straight to number one.

If there’s one definitive thread that runs through his career, it’s his insatiable, lifelong willingness to collaborate. It’s as if he’s is on an eternal quest to see where those famous, timeless McCartney melodies belong among the myriad of genres and scenes that have shifted around him since the days of the Beatles.

He’s proven to be a restless participator in all manner of sound, constantly pushing into uncharted territories. He absorbed Afrobeat with Fela Kuti () in Lagos, won a Grammy for Best Rock Song with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and made lasting pop hits with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Rihanna ().

For the generations of musicians who have followed him, to even have Macca’s arm slung around your shoulder at an awards ceremony has become the ultimate mark of respect: a poignant validation that your career is on track. And if you’re lucky enough, like Damon Albarn (), he might just light your cigarette for you.
